Do you have to bring all legal docs for a DR wedding?

Recommended Posts

Hi I was wondering if anyone knows the answer to this question. I was told that in order to have a wedding in DR you have to have your birth certificate and all other documents translated into spanish in order to perform the ceremony. My question is if I go to city hall in NY(where I am from :) and have the wedding officialized here will they perform an unofficial ceremony in DR? like have the ceremony but no documents will be provided to us?

Hopefully that made some sense to someone lol, because I got confused jus reading it

Thanks!

They call that a symbolic ceremony and it's a popular option because it saves a lot of cash and hassle. You will need to have your wedding license from the city hall in your home town translated into Spanish to prove you guys are already married, but that's it.

In the symbolic ceremony an English speaking employee of the resort will do the ceremony for you. From what I have heard they still take it seriously and do a good job.

I think the wedding license translation may be a resort-specific thing. I am getting married at Dreams PC and I don't think we need to have our license translated to prove our marriage since there is nothing legal about a symbolic ceremony. Some resorts may want that though, so it's probably good to check with your WC wherever you choose!

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
