Stressed out...Is it Rude?

Recommended Posts

i think that is you have one, people will be completely stunned! i don't think you need it, you have enough going on and i think people will understand.

I don't think it's selfish at all! While DW's are common on here, in real life, people don't have that much knowledge of them. So the whole AHR idea, isn't common to everyone anyway! Do what you want. It sounds like a super stressful timing with your just returning, school, moving, etc.

Wow you have a lot going on. I also do not think it is selfish we did not have one we decided to have a dw and that was it nothing when we got home. If people were upset we did not know about it.

I agree with the other girls! We arent having an AHR frankly b/c we don't want to. If we wanted an at home reception we would have gotten married at home. I don't see the whole point of doing both. A big reason most people go away is to save money and to have a smaller intimate wedding (at least thats why we are doing it) so having an AHR would completely defeat that purpose. Don't feel guilty!!

I don't think you are being selfish at all, and I think people who know and care about you would understand that you have a lot going on and won't expect anything. It is so nice that they can come visit you at your house for a drink and maybe see some pics, but anything more than that would be too much stress/time/$.

We didn't have an AHR because we couldn't afford to have one and since we were getting married in November and lived in Chicago at the time it would have been too cold to have anything casual outside. People that were coming asked if we were having anything at home and we just no we're getting married in Mexico and left it at that. It is your wedding, do what you want and don't worry about what other people want you to do. People are going to have an opinion no matter what you do so do what you want and can afford!

You totally do NOT have to do an AHR. But if you want to, why not make it a potluck and have everyone brin a dish instead of a gift (they will still bring gifts anyway, trust me). That way you can keep costs down and still have a get-together. But if it's too stressful, just don't. It's not obligatory by any means. Good Luck!!!

You aren't being selfish at all if you don't want an AHR and your friends will completely understand that you are not having a larger event. If you do the casual event that you had mentioned, or nothing at all, it is perfectly acceptable. Your friends want you to be happy first and foremost!

And, congratulations to your exciting new life in Australia! That is so exciting!

We're having our AHR this Saturday, 8 days after we return from our honeymoon. It's a pig roast (very casual) and will probably be fun, but I couldn't care less about it. If you don't want an AHR, don't have one.

    • I have stayed at Dreams La Romana and Dreams Dominicus.  The two resorts are very different in style and decor. A few comparison points are below and fact sheets are attached for both.   Both resorts are approx 45 minutes from Punta Cana airport, close proximity to Saona Island, Catalina Island and Altos de Chavon. Top championship golf courses in the Caribbean are just minutes away including Teeth of the Dog, Dye Fore, The Links and La Estancia – all designed by world-famous Pete Dye. Restaurants are similar at both resorts.  Both offer the Explorers Club for Kids.  Dreams Dominicus  Brand new resort and in 2016 488 rooms (however additional construction was underway) More contemporary style & decor Good beach area Rooms were very nice Preferred Club located in main lobby and adjacent to main pool & beach front Food was good Center plaza area with nighttime entertainment Main lobby is small, but outdoor bar off lobby is nice Dreams La Romana Originally built in 2003 & opened as Dreams La Romana in 2008 756 rooms Recently renovated and new preferred club adults only lounge & pool added  Rooms are more traditional Caribbean decor Grounds are very lush and tropical Good beach area food was good    Dreams Dominicus fact sheet.pdf Dreams La Romana fact sheet.pdf
