US wedding locations

Recommended Posts

Frank and I have been talking for quite awhile about what we want to do for our legal ceremony. To me, this is "our" ceremony---- the real wedding that is totally about us in a way that nothing else will be for us. Tonight we were talking about mainland locations---- there are 2 things that I absolutely love, but Frank has had very minimal exposure to---- mountains and fall foliage! We've thought about the Pacific Northwest, New England and Montana/Colorado/Arizona/New Mexico. (Yes, believe it or not, that was narrowing it down for us!!!)

So, any recommendations from you guys out there about places you've been to or stayed at? I personally, picture a huge old fireplace with 100% natural lighting from candles for the ceremony, but a nice private location with an amazing view where we can hole up for a week with the cell phones turned off and leave the world behind.

And, last, we don't want to break the bank on this---- but really have no clue about whether it would be just as expensive to do this as it would be to run off to St. Thomas by ourselves for a week and get married there....

Aaron took me on the ferry ride to the San Juan islands last year. We had a good time. We stopped on one island and stay the night and then headed back to Olympia the next day.

On a side note, Aaron's middle name is Vashon, after Vashon Island, so as we passed it he said "That's my island!" Too cute!

Plum Island, just outside of Newburyport, MA is a really cute little town. I have family in Newburyport. That whole area is super cute. Also, there are some really quaint little bed n' breakfasts in Salem, MA. Don't know if you wanna go that route tho, lol. wink.gif

The ferry I'm on right now stops at Vashon. I'll say hi for him!

I am going to Sedona Arizona in September. People have already asked if we will get married there. It is beautiful, and I guess it is a wedding hot spot right now.

What I'm about to suggest isn't in your "area range" (suprising as it is!) But the North Shore (Lake Superior) just past Duluth has some great, romantic, outdoorsy (like a super glorified log cabin) spots that are great during the fall for colors and the lake.

My suggestion is also not on your area list but how about Vermont? Specifically where Mount Snow and all those skiing sites are? If you go around September there is amazing mountain views and the most ridiculous foliage I have ever seen in my life. I go there every year. You can stay at the Equinox which is an upscale place (if you want to go that route) or you can rent a quaint little cabin home (all come equipped with fireplaces). The food in Vermont is to die for. And its away from everything so you get a relaxing weekend w/o cellphones or traffic. They are known for their amazing syrup (mmmm yummy breakfast) and delicious seafood. If you do rent a home it is so cheap and they are so cute. You will not break the bank there.

My friend wants to spend her honeymoon here and then have all their friends come up a week later to relax and celebrate with them.

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
