Hi Sandra, I see that you are getting married at the Barcelo in Mayan Riviera. I had read a post somewhere (will search for it) that said someone bought maracas right at the hotel and they even painted/engraved the bride/groom names and date. just a thought. lots less to pack..this is what I plan do as we are having our wedding at the Barcelo in January as well.

20 pairs...as in 40 individual maracas? I bought my Maracas in Mexico (30 of them) and they filled up 2 shopping bags to the top. I think 40 full-size maracas would fill up one carry on sized bag...with a few more that might have to go in another bag.

I paid $1 USD each at the shops in Playa del Carmen. Most shops sold them for $1.50 USD each but if you go to the shops that aren't on the main strip or further down towards the end you'll find cheaper sellers or ones that are willing to bargain. Unfortunately I don't know if you'll need anything for customs...you might have to declare them since you are bringing them back in a large quantity. Sorry but I can't help there...hopefully someone else can!

I didnt read any posts so im not sure if someone already said this but

Oriental trading co. Party supplies, crafts, party decorations, toys: Oriental Trading has some for 14.99 a dozen. they are wooden and not plastic! I think they have a few more options like that too that maybe a little cheaper as well.

Good luck!!

oh i also wanted to tell you these are painted fiesta colors and chill's in such on them. they come in assorted colors such as yellow red blue and green. Good luck to you again!!

I've been looking for the bigger size ones, plain so I can paint them our wedding colors as well! Haven't been able to find anything!! Searched all over google...they have the mini ones @ OTC, but all the reviews saythey dont make very much noise...I was thinking it'd be fun to use them @ the reception instead of clinking knives on your glass for a kiss....can anyone come up with a cute saying I can attach to the maracas (assuming I find some-ha!)

Thanks! :)

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
