what would you do with this engagement ring?

Recommended Posts

So that title probably sounded really bad! I LOVE my ring. My FI proposed with my great grandmothers ring from 1930 with the original diamond and italian setting. FI had it totally re-habbed, gorgeous. My question is, for all you ladies, how the heck do I get a wedding band around this?

Do you think I should get one custom made to fit around this large setting, or should I just do the whole switch my engagment ring to my right hand and wear a simple wedding band on the left?

My fear is that I'll spend a lot of money on a custom band, and will end up not even liking it...or there just wont be enough room on my finger or the band will take away from the dynamic setting. But of course, deep down I still want the traditional band and ring on the left hand!

has anyone gone through this?? pics below!

I think your ring is gorgeous and worth spending the money to get a custom band to fit. You are going to wear it for the rest of your life, so it is worth it! You could do a really thin band of diamonds, in the same cut, that would just fit right under the engagment ring. I think that would be beautiful!

It's really pretty!

You might ask the jewelry designer that customized the ring for your FI to sit down with you and brainstorm about some ideas..... I bet they could help you visualize what a custom ring would look like or have other suggestions.

Good luck-let us know what you end up with!

It's gorgeous! My ring is antique style- I didn't get a band and just wear it on my left hand. I love it so much I didn't want to downgrade it to my right hand and I couldn't find a band. Every one I tried I thought took away from the ring rather than ehanced it. So my advice- if you aren't totally sold on the idea of a wedding band just forego it. :)

You can kinda see my ring here:

It has diamonds on the sides too which a band would have covered up.

Im all about bands that don't fit with your engagement ring, so I dont see a problem with getting a band that you love to go with that ring at all. Whatever band I get won't fit with my ring either so they will clearly be seperate, which is what I love. You should just go try on some bands with it and see what you think. Thats just my opinon!

Josie, your ring is beautiful!!! I have an antique looking ring so I am just getting a simple wedding band made to fit around it, nothing to flashy because the engagement ring is already pretty detailed and beautiful.

If you don't get a band what do you exchange at your wedding ceremony?

Hi Lisa,

I took my "engagement" ring off in the morning and gave it to the best man. We then exchanged rings during the ceremony.

Some people might like the idea of putting on a ring they have never worn before for the wedding ceremony, so if that's the case, then by all means go for it! Who doesn't want more diamonds. wink.gif But for me personally, my ring meant a lot to me and I didn't really care that it wasn't a "new" ring going on my finger. IT's all about personal preference.

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
