I'm pretty bummed out...

Recommended Posts

I am pretty bummed out! I just went to Apple Vacation's website to see if I could get prices for our dates of travel next year. We had our hearts set on staying at and having our wedding at Secrets Capri Riviera Cancun. It is an Adults-Only property and one of the nicest properties in the area. I put in our dates and departure city and then scrolled through the resorts to find Secrets Capri. It is going to cost $1949.99 per person from Detroit for 7 nights. I know that my guests are going to flip when they hear this. They were planning on 1600-1700 max. I am now torn as to whether we should find a new, cheaper resort, or go with Secrets and say if they can't afford it, oh well...

I also emailed our TA over a month ago and have not heard back from her. Granted it could be due to a email glitch or maybe she over looked it, but I am a bit upset about that.

Who knows, maybe I am just overreacting to all of this because I have been feeling terrible the past few days and have no patience, I don't know. I just feel like I have to try to please everyone and their pocketbook and I really do not want that added stress!! I thought planning a DW was going to be stress free!!

Sorry for venting guys!! I just needed to get this off my chest and maybe you guys have some advice! Thanks for "listening"!!

I'm not as travel savvy as my better half but I say do a little comparison shopping and get a few more prices through other travel agencies before making a final decision. Prices can vary frequently anyhow. I seem to remember Apple as being priced a little higher than say Liberty Travel. Also figure out what is most important to you. If Secrets is the end all be all for you then go for it. People that really want to be there for you wil find the extra 200 to get there. You cant please everyone so do what's most important to you and your FI. Good Luck!

You might want to check Funjet, as well as Expedia, Hotwire, Orbitz, etc... When we were narrowing down locations, I did a spreadsheet of resorts in St. Thomas, Jamaica, Mexico, PR, DR, etc... Then I took a specific date range and priced each resort through Apple, Funjet, Orbitz, Expedia, Travelocity and Hotwire. I started to notice a pattern---- one supplier would be cheaper for St. Thomas, but more expensive for the other locations. What I noticed is that Travelocity was cheaper for more of the resorts in RM...

I'm sure if you go to several sites to price compare you'll find something close or will beat what you already found. And once you hear back from your TA, I'm betting they would find something even better...

I feel your pain. We're going through the same sort of thing.

Have you checked Cheap Caribbean huh.gif They usually have way lower prices than many of the travel sites.

I say if this is where you and FI want to get married then you go for it. It's really only a couple hundred more than you thought - so it's not too bad.

I agree that you should shop around. Try going into a travel agency and talk to someone. Maybe they will get back to you sooner. I had tons of problems with TAs, which is one of the reasons why we arent having a DW.

HOpefully you can find the same trip for a lower price!!!

Would you consider a diff month? Some months are better priced.

I really don't think in the grand scheme of things a couple of hundred dollars is going to make that much of a difference. If you had promised people a $800 vacation and now they are going to have to pay $2,500 then that would be a different story. Also, I noticed that you said the pricing was for 7 days. Your guests could book for 4 or 5 days instead of 7 and save significantly. Another option is having your wedding during a different month when it may be cheaper. I think you should keep Secrets b/c that is where you really want to have your wedding.

I agree with Glenda, keep Secrets as your spot. Your guests don't have stay as long as 7 days. You will learn that with a DW you won't please everybody - and most importantly, you have to please yourself.

Shop around too, you might find a deal.

Don't give up yet. I agree that most guests won't stay 7 nights so that will cut the price down a lot.

Check Pleasant Holidays - Vacations & Vacation Packages - Travel Destinations | Pleasant Holidays They allow free payment plans that might make it more workable for some guests - maybe you too. You only pay $150 pp down to reserve the trip. There are no set repayment terms so they can pay weekly, monthly, or whenever they want for how much they want just as long as the balance is paid 30 days prior to departure.

Most importantly have your wedding where you want it!!!

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
