Ratio, slow to fast songs?

Recommended Posts

I would say more fast songs too...although that's hard for me because there are so many slow songs that I really want to play at our reception. I would group at least 5 fast songs together (probably more), because it may take a song or two to get everyone one the dance floor, and then once everyone gets there they usually stay as long as the songs are good...then give the a break with a slow song or two.

Well, by the time we finally got to the dancing part of our reception, we only had about an hour and a half. People had been drinking and were ready to PARTAY...So, I had my IPOD all nicely set up with about a 6-1 ratio of fast to slow. Well, people kept asking "do you have ______ song" or "do you have xxxxxx song", so I kept changing the play order on my IPOD and a friend got hers out and we played some songs off hers too. We played NONE of my slow songs until the last dance. I'm not sure if all the parents totally enjoyed it, but my parents were out there dancing to all the fast stuff and it worked for us...

Long story short: if you have a DJ, they'll read the crowd. If you're doing an IPOD, prepare to be doing a lot of requests and switching up your carefully planned song list!

I am currently rethinking my playlist, thanks Sara. I am having a fear that as soon as people get into the groove a slowsong will come on. I am also thinking about bringing the laptop in addition to the ipod to easily select the next song if there are request. I recently got my IPOD so I don't know:

Is there a way to select the next song without abrubtly ending the current song that's playing? I hope that's clear.

I never thought that people would request songs.... duuhhh!! That sounds like a PITA. So would you do the ipod again or would you have gone for a DJ?

We're planning about 6-8 fast to every slow song.

I actually have a Dell mp3 player, not an IPOD, so what you're talking about isn't a possibility with that. I'm not sure about an IPOD, but I think they run about the same.

What we did since my friend had her iPOD too, was set up new playlists and while one person was making a small playlist, the other person had her mp3 player playing- does that make sense? That way we could do small lists of songs (like 3 or 4) without much disruption...

For my small party I'm glad we did it the way we did- waayyy cheaper. But, if you have a large group I definitely do a DJ. For Sure.

And, I did have a pretty good playlist originally, we could have just left that playing the way it was and it would have been fine. We were actually having fun picking out what song we wanted...I didn't mind...

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
