Thanks Josh,

Yes I saw the Tortuga Bay in my reseach but as you said, it's really expensive! It's not even an all included. I don't want to do that to my guests. But yes it looks amazing!

You might want to check out expedia or Vacationoutlet.com. I am looking at the majestic, and my travel agent quoted me $1389 (for air from boston, transportation to/from hotel, and 7 nights at the hotel). Per person. So I went on expedia and vacation outlet, and they had a price for all of the same for only 1200! So 2400 per couple. I talked to my TA and she said she could match that price. I'd say that is the way to go. It's def. way less expensive that 400 a night per couple...I believe air alone ran about 950 , so that means the hotel for a couple would be around $208 a night!

I was surprised at how expensive the Majestic is, I had initially wanted to get married there but I really didn't want people to spend that much, but it depends on your guests I suppose (my bridesmaids/groomsmen and friends are all students still and I knew they couldn't afford that much money). It is a really great resort from what I can tell, and you can't cater to everyone, so if you really want this then I would say go for it - people who really want to come will probably not let a difference of $200 stop them.

I guess I am easily swayed by guilt from others, so when I found out how much it was going to be to go to my top choices in DR I decided to switch to Cuba (I don't have any really strong ties to DR, and this resort came highly recommended by several TAs) - and found a great resort which is very affordable ($1000 plus tax for the week, all inclusive). So, just shop around - are you 100% set on DR? And how many of your guests will be out if you decide to go with the Majestic or something similar? Good luck deciding, I can definitely sympathize because I have been there too.
Wow! Sjmacpher, you booked one 1 wk AI for $1000? From Wpghuh.gif In June 2010? That's awesome! I have been to the DR a couple of times and really loved it there. I was also thinking Cuba to save money for everyone but I'm very hesitant because I've never been there. You'll have to keep me posted on your wedding!

Congrats by the way!!

We are going to Dreams Punta Cana, DR. We are leaving from Newfoundland, Canada (which is always more expensive beacuse we are an island). Our price for one week AI was $1721 taxes in. I am getting people saying that it is too expensive also. They say that they want to wait last minute to book and maybe get a cheaper deal. I try to tell them that is does not always work like that. The price goes up by $250 after the discount booking date. Right now we only have 6 people booked ( FI and myself included). We priced RIU Palace Punta Cana and it was more expensive from here than Dreams.

You know I really don't think the price would matter. There is always going to be someone who thinks its too expensive. The thing that really matters is that you are going somewhere you will always remember!! You getting married for you not them anyway!

  • 1 month later...

I think she sais $4000.00 a couple, not person...so that would sound about right, give or take a few hundred dollars...

I'm getting married in Puerto Plata at the Bahia Principe San Juan...we lucked out, there was a great deal on this resort with Noli Tours back in March, for 979.00 taxes in, for adults, and one child stays and flies free...we have kids coming so that was a bonus too. This promo only lasted about a week or so, booked up quick, and then jumped back up to 1400.00-1600.00/week for adults. Having a travel agent work for you is important as they can see these deals and advise you when they come up...

I personaly think $4000 is alot for a vacation. I wouldn't spend that much, I never have. I also looked at this resort, but knew no one would come if I picked it.

I know for a fact price usualy does get cheaper closer to the date, however you never know for how long the price will last, or when it goes down. It's something you have to check everyday.

Have you decided on your resort yet? I ended up choosing Grand Palladium because there are 3 resorts all together 1 royal. and right now for April it's 1278$ Might want to keep looking if you can!

Good luck!

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
