This is such a tough one. I would never be able to afford $4000/couple, personally. Punta Cana is supposed to be one of the most affordable islands too. Any way you can give them 3 or 4 nights as an option, rather than the entire 7?

As was mentioned, packages leaving from Canada are almost always for a full week. If you could get a cheap flight it might be worth it to go through the US...From Canada, I don't think you will find prices much lower than approx $1500 pp leaving from TO...but shop around :)

I'm getting married at the Majestic Elegance at the beginning of December 09 and it is costing $1790, taxes included for a standard double occupancy room. We're flying from Montreal. Our budget was initially $1500 taxes included as we didn't want our guests to have to shell out a fortune. After doing a LOT of research and comparing resorts, we decided that it is worth the extra few hundred dollars to go to the place that we want, and we've accepted that some people may not come due to the price. I almost went crazy trying to accomodate everyone's wishes, and for a while I lost sight of the fact that it is our wedding, and not anyone else's. This is our first time travelling down south, and we don't want to be disappointed. We also don't want to go somewhere else in 2010, 11, etc, and regret our DW location choice.

Initially we were going to get married in January 2010, but when the quotes came back over $2000, we changed our date to the beginning of December (5th-12th). Hurricane season is at its end at that time, and it's before the prices increase for the xmas holidays.

Good Luck!

Tara, I am the exact same way as you. I spent many nights crying, getting frustrated, or dealing with headaches because I was trying so hard to make everyone happy. It just won't happen. You just have to make sure you go to where you want to go and put yourself and your fiance first.

I'm in the same dilema right now. I would likke to go to Paradisus Palma Real march 2010, but the cost is around 2300$ per person and the wedding packages are way more expensive then the other resorts, and that do not include pictures!

I was looking for the Excellence as well and the price is about 2000$ anyway. Does our guests would want to pay more to go to this resort?

I don't know what to do!!

If you are looking into the PPA, then an option would be to tell you guests they could stay at EdenH which is basically next door when you walk on the beach. It is cheaper, and then guests could walk over to the wedding. I had a group that did this a couple weeks ago and it worked out great.

What do you mean about PPA Josh? Paradisus Punta Cana?

In your experience Josh, you probably saw all the resorts in Punta Cana, if money would not be a problem (I wish!!) which resorts make the best weddings, in quality, ceremony locations, receptions....

Paradisus (both of them)

Excellence

Majestic Colonial and Elegance ??

Or else??

Sorry I meant PPR, Paradisus Palma Real. Guests can easily walk there from EdenH and from the Melia Caribe which are more affordable options.

I wish there was an easy answer to your question! It all depends on your ideal wedding, and the group you are with - what type of people they are.

The Paradisus Palma Real was a beautiful location. The reception being the most beautiful part. The ceremony I attended was is in a garden location which was nice but didn't have the wow I was expecting for that resort.

The beach at most resorts in Punta Cana is the exact same. You are going to get nice white sand, and beautiful blue ocean. For a ceremony, the Majestic's have a fantastic set-up on the beach. The canopy on a hill surrounded by coconuts is really beautiful. But you are prone to spectators standing in the background and watching at the sides.

Size to me is a big thing about a resort, I prefer a smaller resort. But if you don't want to bump into people every two seconds you may want a larger resort.

If price didn't matter and you had a small group and just wanted to be married on the beach and have a great time. Then the best resort is the Tortuga Bay Resort. It was private, beautiful, you get your own golf cart, you have your own villa (or have a duplex villa), and you get the utmost privacy. However, the prices are crazy!

If you have a modest budget, don't mind the potential of a small hiccup (eg if the flowers show up a bit different then planned), want good food, a nice atmosphere, then I would say the Majestic's are all around the way to go. I've heard that Dreams is very similar, and I will be there early August and will let everyone know.

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
