Prices vs. Wedding Date Dilemma

Recommended Posts

Hi Everyone,

Just curious if anyone else is having the same dilemma that I am. We are planning on getting married in the Riviera Maya area next Feb/Mar timeframe. We haven't picked a date or resort yet because prices have not been released. I feel like I'm behind in picking a date because I know that they are limited, but I don't want to commit to a place w/ out knowing the prices.

How are you all solving this problem? It seems like most of you go ahead and just pick the resort you want, reserve a date, and then wait for prices to be released. This freaks me out a little because I don't want to end up picking a resort that many of my guests cannot afford.

Any suggestions??

Thx..

Matt

Hi Matt,

My wedding isnt till June 2008 and I had Tammy (Host) request rates from Dreams for my dates. They gave the rates to her for that time and we already have our room block complete!! If you are working with a TA I believe they can request the rates from the resort that way. Hope that helps.

Matt - I ABSOLUTELY was in the exact same boat as you! I wanted April 08 in Jamaica, but the resorts weren't releasing their rates until May. So, unfortunately - I had to wait until then! Are you working with a travel agent? My TA was able to get me rates about a week or two before they were available online. GOOD LUCK!!!

Hmmmm....

Tammy told me a couple of weeks ago that the resorts I was looking at in Riviera Maya hadn't released their prices yet. Maybe Los Cabos and Riviera Maya are on different schedules.

I also requested info on Dreams (Tulum vs. Los Cabos) and apparently those aren't available.

Thanks for the heads up.

When we first met with our travel agent, she gave us some suggestions to look at for resorts based on criteria we gave her. She also gave us a sample of what the pricing for those resorts had been based on previous years during that time of year. So right there, we had an idea of what our guests might spend.

Then, I'd start looking at resorts and email her a list so she could get wedding information for us and a list of wedding related prices for us. That way, we could look at our wedding expenses too.

We wound up making our decision before rates were published at our resort, and since a lot of the all-inclusive resorts treat their wedding department separate from their reservations department, we were able to submit the necessary paperwork to reserve our date for the wedding.

Then, once the rates are published, a TA can negotiate room blocks, package pricing for the travel/accommodations, etc...

Yeah...it seems that every other place besides Riviera Maya releases their prices almost a year out. I'm looking at 9 months right now and there aren't any prices. It's starting to freak me out a little. :)

Jeez, that does stink! I'm planning on getting married in RM as well, but not until Summer of '09!! (I can't imagine what the prices are going to be like then...) So I will keep checking this thread to see how it works out for you. GOOD LUCK!!!!!!

I'm not really any help, as I am searching for 08 rates as well... however, I may be in assistance by reminding you that Easter will be in March next year, so prices will be VERY high around that time.

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
