Wedding in 5 months, only 5 booked so far!!!???

Recommended Posts

Our families knew from when we got engaged last August that we were planning a destination wedding. Our parents and siblings all assured they would be there with their families. We booked the date and hotel back in November.

So far, the only ones who have booked and left deposits are both set of parents and my sister/bf. My fiance's side of the family are mostly prominant with well paying jobs, who take several vacations a year. His sister decided if at all, she may come alone without her kids or husband, to save money. This while they roll in from the airport from a vaction and are in the midst of planning another.

My first cousin mentioned that she would like to come, but have since decided that it was more important to bring her 3yr old to Disney for 10 days.

What is everyone waiting for? We were expecting at least 12 more people to definitely go but they avoid the subject. I know times are tough, but geeze.

Anyone else dealing with this?

Oh you are not alone. I think just about everyone had people who 'promised' they 'wouldn't miss it' and then didn't come - for whatever reason.

I think it's great that both sets of parents will be there - that is most important.

If there are any friends or relatives who you really expected to come or really want to be there - I would touch base with them. Let them know that even though it is a DW, there are still booking deadlines, etc that need to be met.

I know how frustrating this is for you, though!!!

I know how you feel!

changed my location just to make it more affordable for people and how many more have signed up.... NONE!! Not to mention now my FIs folks say they may not come, that's right. WTF!

If I don't get 10 people booked I won't be able to book as individuals until this summer and by then I will probably have an impossible time finding an officiant (I'm a DR bride)

I hope your family clues in. Good luck!

honestly 5 months is still a lot of time, there are many brides on here who have said they've received bookings a week before the wedding! people are funny like that with DWs even though you would think traveling to a destination would make people plan ahead rolleyes.gif at the same time i think there are always disappointments for everyone when it comes to certain people not making the trip, yanno it really comes with the DW territory. i say be patient, and yes at the end of the day be grateful for those who make the commitment to attend -- your day will be wonderful no matter what! msnwink.gif

Well said.
I agree with MarieSam, lots of people book at the last minute and lots of brides on here have experienced that. I am worried about that too when my date gets closer. I have lots of verbal "will gos" but I'm afraid that will change when it comes time to book.

Just remember as it has already been said- be thankful for who goes and remember its about you and your FI. (although I secretly hate when people say that because although I know its true it really hurts that some people I love won't go)

OH MY GOSH - YES this is so true!!! I have said this same thing to people on here, and it didn't really strike me how hurtful and depressing it can be till I had it happen to myself. Getting the "I can't make it" truly sucks ass and quickly puts me into a bout of sadness, but FI has been the one to remind me to keep focused on "us". *sigh* it is tough though I give you that!

Thanks! Honestly, I can forgive the people who really can't afford it. But the ones who claim poverty and then book a different vacation in the same week really bother me.

The reason we picked Beaches was with the presumption that there would be about 6 small kids traveling there. It's an all inclusive with a free day care and sesame street camp, waterpark, ect. So when I hear that they can't come, but can go on a Disney trip or a luxury cruise, it really hurts and offends me. We would have never picked a DW if we thought it would be such a financial burden to those close to us.

I don't know that I think 5 months is alotta time. We have 6 months til our wedding and we have about 4 ppl who haven't booked yet and I'm only giving them until 5.31.09 (the booking date actually ended 3.15.09)... One of the girls I'm waiting on is having financial diff and I explained to her that she doesn't have to go and I totally understand, but she insist that she's booking tomm... We'll see.

I really feel your pain. I want ppl booked already so that they won't feel rushed to pay their balances...

I know it is hard to do the waiting, but that is what you have to do. Some people may be waiting to book last minute in the hopes of saving a few dollars. And unfortunately some may be waiting to hear what is happening with this swine flu thing. But for what ever reason, try and be patient and when talking to these people sound excited and really pour on the sales pitch on what a great time it will be, and what amazing and special memories you will all be making. Good luck I really hope everything turns out, and they will one way or the other. Just remember that if it is not excatly what you thought does not mean it can't be better.

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
