Personalized Vows

Recommended Posts

I know some of you wrote or will write your own vows for the wedding.

We've been so busy at this rate it looks like we'll be writing ours on the flight to P.V. - seriously!

So are we supposed to hide them from each other until the ceremony or did any of you share them in advance? We'll be sitting 5 inches apart and we're both so nosey that when we are through we'll want to share. After 7 years they won't be revelations so we aren't sure it needs to be a surprise. We tend to be rule-breakers anyways, but is there an etiquette for vows?

And, can we have a cheat sheet for the ceremony? If so, who holds on to that? FI has pockets but I don't.

I would try to keep it from each other. I think its really great to hear it for the first time when your standing in front of each other on your wedding day.

I plan on putting my vows in my purse, and I'll have Missy hold onto it and hand it to me just before the ceremony starts.

We just wrote our vows this week (finally!) - it was also something that we kept putting off. We have not shared them with eachother but we sent them to my brother who is doing our ceremony for us. We both tried to follow the same idea of 4-5 lines of what we promise or vow to do for the other. My brother is also going to interview us separately about why we fell in love with eachother and he'll incorporate that within the ceremony.

I definitely think you should keep your vows from eachother and not share until the day of your wedding!

Another nice idea I have heard is: When my brother got married, he inscribed his vows to his wife and her vows to him on 2 small silver plaques. He put it in each of their medicine cabinets so that each day they see/read it & remember their vows to eachother. I might try to do the same with ours...

Good luck Jamy!! You are getting married the day before me!! When do you get back from Mexico? It will be so fun for all of us to share our stories!

I think it would be nice to keep them apart, but I think its up to the two of you if you want to share them or not. You could always ask your officiant to keep the vows up front until you make it up there. Then no one has to carry them down the isle. Just ask your maid of honor to set it up.

We wrote ours after we got there! We didn't share them with each other which was really special. I recommend it. You'd be amazed at how touching it is - even after you've been together for a long time.

We both wrote our vows on the hotel stationery (didn't consult with each other first he he). Our photographer shot a close of up each of our vows as we were reading them so we have a dual picture of what we said to each other which is sweet and I really like that it's on hotel paper!

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
