Less than 8 months away...and still no dress!!!

Recommended Posts

Should I be freaking out at this point? I haven't even tried any on! I wanted to go with my mom, but every time we schedule a date and time, it never goes through! My married friends have said that it can take up to 6 months for a dress to arrive...is this true? That sounds like such a long time!! I can't imagine it taking more than 4 months or so...how long did it take for you guys? I need to feel better, help! I'm so stressed out...between work and my FI and I just bought a house so we've been spending our time ripping out carpet and painting that we've pushed the wedding planning aside...i need a few days away at the beach! haha.

I think I'd be feeling the pressure if I were in your shoes. What if you went to a few bridal salons on your own to get a sense of what style it is that you look best in and then have your mother come along to show her a narrowed down selection? Depending on your dress it could take longer than 6 months or it could take less time. My dress took just over 5 months to come in leaving me with 3.5 months for alterations (or time to find an off-the-rack dress if I wasn't happy...but I am).

I agree with Michelle. I think you should go soon as well. I ordered my dress in March and they told me it won't be here until September. Even if you think you know what style you want - they look very different on than they do in the magazines. You need to try them on to see how they look. Gook Luck!

is there a dress shop near the shore wink.gif that would knock out 2 problems :)

seriously tho, i wouldnt stress about it, just get movin! even tho you want your mom to be there, why dont you just go and try some on alone, without anyone hovering and criticizing. then when you find a few you love, you can make her come back with you and it will cut down on the time she needs to be available.

Ordered mine in December and it came in the last week of April. Really depends on which designer you order from. A good friend of mine found a perfect fit and bought it straight off the rack for a great price (1/2 the original cost) so there are ways of getting one fast as well.

Good luck!!!

I was only engaged for 8 1/2 months, so I wouldn't freak out too much. Just find a date that works well with your mom and hop on it! :)

And my first dress took four months to arrive... but then I hated it. So I ended up ordering a brand new dress the very last week in January for my April wedding!! Now, i completely DO NOT recommend doing that (I had to pay rush alteration fees... $$$), but it just proves that anything can be done.

Definitely don't stress out. If you have to go by yourself (in my opinion better anyway cause you can fully decide and not have opinions of others, especially when they don't like a dress you love!) Most salons can rush it for you it would just cost a little bit more. I think the average weight for a dress to come in is 3-4 months.

You never know you might find one off the rack!

I agree with the majority of the ladies... while I wouldn't panic yet - I would get moving soon on this. My dress took 3 months to come in ... but I have heard of dresses taking 6 months or more. And yes, bridal salons can rush it but usually you will incur extra costs.

Go by yourself if no one is available; get an idea of what you like ... then bring back Mom for the narrowing down and final decision.

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
