Anyone have to get permission to travel w/ stepkids?

Erin:

I suggest that u def go to the courts and see if you can do anything. Every state has different laws so research the laws in your state and see what u can do. There r judges that understand ur situation and may grant you temp custody for the duration of the trip.

My FI has an 18 yr old and for her 15th birthday we took her to Colombia as her Bday gift. When we arrived at the passport agency (She resides in FL and we are in NY so we had to go to the agency for a passport) the agent suggested that we bring along a letter of authorization from her mom (AKA A**hole) just so we cover our behinds. And Thank God we did because upon exciting Colombia they requested it! Also I do not think they would have given us a pp for her w/o a letter.

Hope this helps! Good Luck!

so you all will see that i started this thread almost 11 months ago, when we started the battle of getting my fiance's daughter to be allowed to come to our wedding.

since then we have faced a ridiculous battle with her extremely immature and selfish mother who refused to let my future step daughter come.

it ended up in court and today we finally got the decision. our whole journey was made worth it when the judge issued an order that she be able to come!!!! SHE'S COMING TO THE WEDDING!!!!!!

i don't know if anyone will read this far into a thread this old, but i felt like i needed to say how much the support of everyone on here has meant to me. i knew when we were sitting there today, waiting for the decision, that there was a group of girls out there, who i have never met (but feel like i've known forever) thinking good thoughts and saying their prayers for us. WELL, it worked, and i have to say that i wouldn't have ever gotten through this without these girls! thank you EVERYONE here for your support and making me feel like i'm not the only one who has ever been through something like this, and i didn't have to get through it alone!!!

glad everything worked out. I have a future stepdaughter also so I know how that is the only thing is I have never met the mother because we are in different countries but she is not nice on somethings. Good luck with the wedding and yeah hurry and get that passport. Enjoy your wedding.

Congratulations on your victory! Although this is the first wedding for FI and myself, and we have no children... I came from divorced parents, and wasn't at my father's second marriage. THAT is a story too long to get into here, but just know that by fighting for your stepdaughter's right to attend the wedding, you have made a HUGE difference in her life!

That's awesome news Erin!!! My FI has 2 children (13 & 9) but he has full custody. We still need the letter of consent from their mother, but so far, she hasn't made any fuss about them going to the DR for our wedding (I really don't think she can due to the custody agreement).

I see your wedding is in a few weeks! Hope you have an amazing time!

Hi Erin! You're wrong to think nobody would be interested in reading a thread this old! Being a divorcee myself, I was extremely interested in the outcome. I was lucky that my ex only made a few murmurings about bringing my youngest to my wedding in DR. However, my "youngest" was 16 at the time, so he knew better than to push it! But, still, I could easily put myself in your shoes as my ex must be related to your FI's ex (his nickname could be Satan too). I'm so glad you listened to the girls who advised you to take the B to court and so thrilled that you WON! You've given hope to some of the other couples on here who are also battling with bitter exes. Now go have yourself a wonderful wedding and don't forget to come back and tell us all about it!

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
