gifts for parents?

Recommended Posts

Just curious what people are getting their parents. Is it required to get them a gift? I can't think of anything to get my mom. I am going to get albums done for the parents after we have pics, but do I need to get something for them the day of? Thanks for any ideas/advice you can offer!

Are you having programs at the ceremony? You could include a special thank you to them in the program. I wouldn't worry about a material gift for them before the wedding, giving them a photo album afterwords would be perfect. The most special gift I've seen pre-wedding was an embroidered hanky (with a poem, the date...) if that's something your parents may appreciate.

I don't think I'm getting my parents anything for my wedding day. I have so much to worry about already. We are paying for the wedding ourselves and have done almost all of the planning ourselves - I definitely appreciate my parents and all they have done for me my entire life, but I don't really understand why I need to give them a gift on my wedding day. I am going to make them albums of pictures after the wedding - but I already have too much to worry about getting done before the wedding...

If your parents are paying for your wedding or did most of the planning, then I think you should get them a thank you gift for that - otherwise, I just don't think its needed..

I too am going to purchase a wedding album for them. I am not giving them anything on the day of, because like DGG we are doing and paying for everything ourselves, (including an extra set of invites for parents to send out, mom upset because her name is not on them!) So I think with everything I have done and will do enough. I cannot afford anymore.

I am not getting my parents gifts on our wedding day, for a couple of reasons. First, we are paying for and planning the whole thing ourselves. Second, we are actually subsidizing the cost of their travel (otherwise they couldn't afford to come). Third, I just don't understand the logic in it :)

Since my mom has basically been my local wedding planner and I don't know what I would do without her I am getting her some small things. I got her a coach passport cover and then a bead necklace with a glass-blown starfish pendant.

After the wedding we are going to get my mom & step-dad and Dad & step-mom a coffee table photo book.

i don't think you need to get your parents anything material wise. for my parents, i plan to write them a letter a week before the wedding thanking them for everything and i also plan to set aside some time to be with just my parents. i think my parents would appreciate being with their daughter one last night before they give her away :)

i think it's the thought that counts and to show your parents that you're still their little girl!

We're planning on getting them an album of the wedding photos & have tossed around the idea of upgrading their room as a thank-you.

I think they'd enjoy the extra space because they're staying for a week, but my niece & nephew will be staying in their room for the 4-day weekend.

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
