How long did you have to plan?

I'm just curious how long everyone took to plan their DW.

 

I'm still in the planning process now and haven't commited to a day yet! I'm afraid to pick too early and then stress for a year! The date I like would give me a little over a year to plan. My second choice is 3 months later.

 

Maybe I'm just used to long engagements because I've only been involved with big local weddings. So I wanted to see what you ladies think and see how long you've had!!!

For us, it was a question of saving money since we are paying for the wedding ourselves. We got engaged in October 2008 and set our date for April 2010 which is a one and a half year engagement. We figured that would give us enough time to save up some money and plan.

You'll be fine with a year. I had just under a year and a half and I swear I took like 6 months off from planning.

I was engaged in June 2006 and my DH left for Iraq a week later. He was gone for 14 months ... we were married in April 2008 ... so I had PLENTY of time to plan ... and was actually glad of the added time. Although I was still rushed at the end with all of my DIY projects ... the planning process itself was great and that timeframe was especially great for our guests ... since they had ample time to make their plans and save money.

I was engaged for 8 months, however I had almost everything planned before then so I really didn't do much during the 8 months... so I would say that your first date choice of a year away should be more than enough.

We didn't quite do things the traditional way lol...March 26 of last year we decided to get married August 16, 2008. We didn't think we'd be able to swing it financially but then Sandals had an amazing deal and we could do it after all! We had been ring shopping already...I didn't even get my ring until July til he found the one he was happy with.

 

We also had a big reception back home last September which was a lot more work and planning than the wedding. I think if you have an idea of what you want, you can plan as quickly as you need to. I would think a year would be plenty of time to plan.

We got engaged in September and got married 10 days ago. It was around eight months and I didn't feel overwhelmed at all. I still have our at home receptions though but those are a couple months away so I have time to plan those still!

I would think a year would be the perfect amount of time, but everyone is different.. I am planning my wedding for December 2009, and haven't even decided on a resort yet. Talk about freaking out!! We got engaged the end of December 2008. Although much of the planning has been put on hold until just recently. So I guess I'll have about 6 monthes..Ahh...

We got engaged on Labor Day weekend of 2008 and have our wedding planned for 9/9/09 which gave us just barely over a year to plan everything which was plenty of time!

We have an 18 month engagement. Of course I have other things in life so for the 1st 9 months we had decided on a location date and basics. I chose to do a lot DIY and now I'm cramming to get stuff done with 3 months to. So all in all it was good for our guests to have plenty of notice, but I don't really think it matters how much time you have its how much time you spend on it. If you are consistently working on wedding you won't have any problems!
