AHR 6 days after we get home

Recommended Posts

I'm having mine 5 days after we get back! We return on a Sunday and are having our AHR the following Friday. We thought the same thing, we didn't want to lose the wedding momentum! We're just having carribean themed appetizers instead of a full dinner to make it more casual, and having a DJ and open bar.

Ours in is May and around here that could mean 20 degrees or a blizzard.

I got you all beat. I arrive back from my trip Feb 6 and my reception is in my condo party room on the 7th! A day after we arrive!!!!

It's going to be a very casual event though, with no real sit down meal or anything. Just an afternoon cocktail reception with wine/beer, sandwiches, desserts etc. We'll also display our photos in a slideshow which we'll set up on the way back (from the dvd we're getting from the photographer). Still have to think about getting a "wedding cake", music, some activities to engage the guests, speeches (if any), and a gift to give each family.

I was thinking of giving away some bags filled with stuff from Mexico. Like, pomegranate tequila (little bottles), vanilla (Mexico has nice vanilla for baking), and a couple of other things I might find down there that I like and aren't too costly.

Good luck to everyone with their AHR's!

I, too, will be having an AHR just TWO days after we return from Jamaica. My issue is...WHAT IN THE WORLD DO I PUT ON THE INVITEhuh.gif lol I'm actually working on a separate invite for the AHR as we speak and I've found some really cute sayings, poems, etc. What I find confusing is how I should refer to my FI and I on the invite. I'll be sending them out and they'll be received BEFORE we leave for the DW so it seems kind of crazy to say "please join Mr. and Mrs. Kyle Thomas..." because that's not what we'll be at the time they receive it. On the flip side, it seems weird to just have our first names on there as well.....HELP!!!

we're having ours 3wks afterwards...but only cuz it's the only place available we could find and afford. it's still fairly formal...but we didn't start out for it to be that way. honestly found that the more unique & simple we wanted to do things...the more the cost seemed to go up. oh well...either way it's coming along nicely. i just wish i knew more about wedding planning before i set dates...haha. no one told me may was so popular! haha

i think the idea that was mentioned about having a fun backdrop for photos would be fun. you could also say on your invite something about bringing the mexican vibe back and attire is requested. some may, some may not.

good luck!

We are having ours 2 days after we return. I am sending reception invitations with the wedding invitations. I am making the reception one the "main event" and the wedding invitation is only going to those that are going as a nice follow-up since everyone has already booked the trip that is going. Here are my invites. But my wording for the reception invitation is as follows:

"Parents"

and "Parents"

are pleased to announce

the marriage of their children,

Ashley Michelle and Justin David,

on Sunday, the sixteenth of May,

two thousand ten,

in a private ceremony

on the beach in Playa del Carmen, Mexico.

Please join us for a

celebration of their marriage

when they return as

husband and wife

Saturday, the twenty-second of May,

two thousand ten,

at six o'clock

"Location details"

six o'clock ~ social hour

seven o'clock ~ dinner

eight o'clock ~ dance

Bahaha, I am so stressed about Alberta weather. I have planned my AHR for June 5th in my parents backyard by the pool. I will of course rent patio heaters and have blankets placed on every second chair (for the girls) with our wedding monogram embroidered on them. Is your reception outside as well? I am doing something similar to you, having hot and cold appetizers catered, hired a bar tender but keeping it more casual. I am starting the reception at 6pm, but i am wondering if this will be a little too late. However in order to show the slide show it needs to be darker and in Edmonton the sun takes forever to go down in the summer months.

Hoping for good weather for us AB girls,

Amy :)

We are having ours 6 days after we return on 5th Feb in England - so it will be damn cold / prob snowing!!! But I have worded the invites just as astreit has. We are not having the formal sit down meal just more of a party which i think the guest are aware of as our STD are in the style of a postcard from Mexico. I think women will generally wear a party dress anyway whether its winter or summer. I will decorate the venue with shells, photos from the day etc and hope it creates the beach feeling. Think my feet will be cold in my sandals tho!

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
