Beth's (BLKATZ) Dreams Tulum Review 5/2/09-LONG

Recommended Posts

Even though we only had 4 other people at the wedding I really wanted to post my review. let me know if anyone has any questions.

Check in

We had a private transfer from the Cancun airport through American Express-definitely well worth the money. As soon as we got there we were greeted with cool towels and a welcome home. No champagne but that is ok. when we went to the desk we were actually given the honeymoon suite which was awesome because it was free :)

Our room was great-as Sunbride had mentioned before the honeymoon suite was definitely not what I was expecting but it was still very nice. 2 balconies and a huge bathroom.

The only draw back was that we were in the 7000 block which was really far from the pool/beach.

Food-we are very picky eaters and we were very happy with everything. Our friends are very picky too and they loved everything. Most nights we ordered all the apps and multiple deserts etc.

Seaside Grille-great for lunch but be warned, one day it was 90 minutes before we were finished-very slow service here. We ate here for dinner the last night and the food was excellent.

Portofino-awesome. The gnocci was so good-for dinner I had the shrimp and it was very tasty. The deserts here are the best.

Gohan-so my husband likes to fish and usually will not order sushi anywhere but he loved the sushi here and we actually ordered more!

Asian place-it was just ok-good chicken yakotori

El Patio-ate here for lunch one day and we all loved it. I had the chicken fajitas and they were great! The fried calamari was kind of gross and so was the chicken wings

Bordeux-we ate here on the last night and the service was excellent. Everyone loved it here also

The World Café-breakfast is the way to go here. I ate lunch one day here and it was fine, just made a big salad-my other guests had lunch there and hated it.

Beach/Pool

I am not sure if it was because of the flu situation or what but we were lucky enough to get plenty of chairs everyday. The entertainment staff are so fun-we did a few of the activities and laughed the entire time.

Wedding details

When we got to the resort I had asked if Natalia was around-and they said no. I came back on Tuesday after hearing a lot of my guests had canceled and they finally got her on the phone and she told me that I would have a letter in my room with a meeting time tomorrow.

Met with Natalia on Wednesday and went over everything-she is so nice and was so patient with me. At this point we thought we were going to have 15 people so we went with the Silver package. I had told her that I already booked Erick Rodriguez and she told me that I would have to pay an outside fee for them. Whatever. Everything else was fine-I had emailed them prior with the flowers I wanted and they had that email in hand.

Fast forward a few days and we realized that we only had 4 other couples coming down. I went and found Natalia immediately who again, was so patient with me and told me not to worry. She was off to do another wedding but asked me to come back that evening so we could talk. After I came back, we talked again and she totally understood everything and offered me the free package. Here is the deal, when she offered the package, she never told me that I would have to pay for the flowers which turned out to be $500.

The next day was the wedding-had my hair/makeup at 1:30 and the woman, I think her name was Angelica was AMAZING! I was very nervous after hearing everyone talk about too much makeup. When I sat down I told her only a little makeup I like the natural look. I was so happy when we were done. My friends were shocked how great the makeup looked. I think the lesson learned, is to speak up and tell them what you like and you don’t.

Natalia came and got to my room around 3:45 to come and get me. Walked to the seaside grill and then had the service. The judge was hysterical-it was very important to us that he did not mention Jesus or religion since we are Jewish-he did great. Jay told him to make it quick and it was.

I have to give an A++++ to Claudia Rodriguez and her team. During my time at the resort I probably emailed her 6 times with updates and concerns. I had booked Erick (her brother) for 7 hours and Mike for the same but since my guests canceled I didn’t need that many hours. She actually called me one nigh and talked to me for 20 minutes and came up with a great package.

Her brother Erick is AMAZING. He showed me some of the pictures he took and I was blown away. We did a TTD right after the ceremony and we had such a good time with it. I can not wait to see the pictures. He actually had us jump in the pool in the end. AMAZING! I would tell any girl who wants a great photographer to use Erick.

The only other thing I will say is, I wanted to use DJ Mannia and I actually had him booked but because of the canceling guests I had to cancel him-he was very gracious and understanding also. I am sad that we didn’t get to use him but what can you do?

I posted some non pro pictures in the Dreams Tulum thread so everyone can see :0

Let me know if anyone has any questions…

I'm so happy to hear you still have a great experience even though almost all your guests canceled last minute.

When you say you used the free package, did they actually give it to you for free? Becuase I know it's only free if you have 5 rooms booked (otherwise it's approx 800$) in your case I guess you only had 2 rooms. If they did give it to you for free, I guess it's because your other guests had paid for their rooms and perhaps Dreams still got their money? (i.e. if they canceled with cancelation insurance then the insurance paid for the rooms). Or if they did not get paid for those canceled rooms, perhaps they were just being nice and understanding.

500$ seems a lot for flowers, did you get a lot of them ? ? ?

What do you mean they charged you a vendor fee for using an outside photographer? Do you mean just the day pass or did they charge you more than that?

Please post your pictures when you get them, I LOVE Claudia's team's work.

The wedding package was free-they didn't charge us for it. My guests all got their money back from the resort also.
I got my bouquet and 3 things for the chuppah.

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
