My engagement story that I never posted.

Recommended Posts

I'm feeling nostalgic- and finally getting re-excited for the wedding as the swine flu drama dies down a bit.

I got enagaged February 9th 2008.

FI planned a weekend getaway for us and he told me nothing except to make no plans for that weekend. In the weeks leading up to this little trip I couldn't handle the suspense I wanted to know where we were going. So I made him give me a clue everyday leading up to it and finally (after not being able to figure out the clues) the day before packing we played like speed round of clues and I guessed the Bahamas. I just have to say- his clues were super abstract- like only having to do with the Bahamas in his head. It was pretty funny. I digress...

We left EARLY friday the 9th and were really snippity the whole way to the airport and actually had a fight at the airport and sat on opposite sides of the waiting area. (this is so not us-but he was acting crazy... little did I know) censored.gif Anyway,we got to the resort and everything was peachy we drank, played, swam etc. All the while this nagging voice in my head was like "he's not proposing.. I mean he would plan something special- don't get your hopes up cause what if he doesn't?" This was like my anthem cause all my friends were like "do you think he's proposing" the week before and I adamantly said no becuase I didn't want to get all disappointed if he didn't.

That night he planned nothing special for dinner and we were at the casino and he was losing sooo much money at the roulette table it was crazy. he was just betting and betting.. I sensed some anxiety and I suggested we get out of there. On our way our we tried one slot machine and won $250 bucks! As we were leaving he asked some guy if there was a rooftop deck and there wasn't.. Looking defeated he suggested we go back to our room. I at this point was super tired cause we gotten up at like 5am in ny and I suggested we call it a night.

I threw myself on the bed and he sat on a chair by the window staring aimlessly out and was like "you're tired?". Then he was like "c'mon hun lets go for a walk by the beach." I was so reluctant. "fine", I said. As we walked out on the beach hit the bar and chugged a bahama mama. That was very unlike him. he started speed walking towards the walkway out on the beach and I got so angry cause I had kitten heels and they were getting stuck in the deck and he was leaving me in the dust.

Finally we had walked pretty far out on this walkway and were out looking at the fish, with the glow of the moon he said "hey hunny look at this one." I assumed he meant the fish and I turned around and he was on bent knee an propsed. What's the first thing that comes out of my mouth? "What? wait are you kidding?" It was a reflex cause I was so surprised. I can see his hand shaking as he held my ring and said "Yamille don't make any sudden movements". I tend to be a little clutsy so he thought I would throw my arms around and the ring might have fallen into the ocean. blush2.gif

Of course I said yes. As we kissed and embraced it really felt like nobody else was around and then there was this amazing fireworks display. There was nobody else on the beach so it felt like it was just for us. (FI tried to later take credit for that. ha ha) I didn't cry until we were walking and he told me that he had rented a car and driven out to long island a few weeks ago to get my dad's blessing. woot.gif

Also I was amazed that my mom and sis didn't let on to anything.

We get married in 16 days.bunny_4.gif

Awww, what a sweetie.

I think guys feel such pressure to have this exotic proposal sometimes and it's overwhelming to them. I'm glad he was able to do something he felt was special, even if he was nervous as hell!

Congratulations!

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
