I originally wanted to have mine no later than six months out. However, our parents are paying and they took forever to book a place. Now we're having a 1yr anniversary party for all of our guests who couldn't attend our wedding in Mexico. So our AHR is 1 yr out from our wedding.

Hello ladies... I just printed the invites for my AHR it is June 5th, we got married Feb.2nd

Around the four month mark for us.

We are doing something really simple "an open house venue" Stop by for a celebration drink and finger foods. I am hiring a bartender and two servers. (serveral of my friends kids have stepped up and said they'd love the job). I am also looking into ordering glassware and plates from a rental company. I want it to be reasonable but not cheap looking... I hate drinking out of a plastic glass!!!

I have gotten the centre pieces for tables and lighting coming into our house. Hubby has been given the job or creating a DVD of our wedding pictures with music. We are figuring about 100 people through out the day. Good luck ladies...

I have the same issue. My wedding will be in February 2011. I have a lot of relatives in Scotland/England/Australia that most likely will not be joining us in Punta Cana. If we have the AHR shortly after we return, the weather in Canada in March would not the best for their vacation. First step is to get some numbers together and figure out how many overseas relatives will be coming to either the wedding or the AHR. I think if we have an AHR at all, it will be in June.

Huh. I always thought that having it soon after the wedding was better. It seems silly to me to have it too long afterward... that's just me. That said, I have no idea when we're doing ours. We're still discussing details. My fiancé wants it outside, but the weather here can be pretty unpredictable at times, I might prefer it to be indoors just so we don't have to worry about when we have it and the headache of a rain date or a "Plan B."

I guess it all comes down to when you want to and/or can have it! No rules on this one!!

Hey Susie,
Where are you renting your dishes from? Are you hiring a catering company or making the food yourself?
We are debating on what to do.. and where to have it ... and whether to cook/buy food ourselves ... I think we'll be around 70-80 people. I am the same as you, don't want it to look cheap, but not cost an arm and a leg!!
I love the idea of an open house too.

Thanks for all the help ladies. I was not going to do AHR at all at first. But I knew there was going to be family from California that would not be able to make or Jamaica wedding and people in Florida (where we live) that wont be able to make it so we then decided that we were going to have a send off party.. However, after reading this it kinda just makes more sense to have it after so people will be able to see wedding pictures and videos.. so I think we will just have BBQ in both states.

Similar to a DW, I don't think there are any rules regarding the date of the AHR. Have it when you want to have it - I'm sure your guests will be ready to celebrate no matter how long it is after the DW!!

We are getting married in the beginning of May and having our AHR in the middle of June, so they are about a month and a half apart. We ideally wanted it somewhat close to our actual DW, so some of the excitement from the trip will still be there, but we have to travel for our AHR (we are having it in MI, where most of FI's family is located), so scheduling was a little tricky. We had to take into consideration that we'll need to take a day or two off from work and I didn't want my son to miss any more days of school (since he'll be missing a week for the DW) so we wanted to wait until summer vacation started for him. Plus, the weather is a little nicer/more predictable here in June, because our reception venue has a beautiful outdoor area that we want to be able to utilize.

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
