How long can you wait?

Recommended Posts

There's no "rules" for anything! Do what you want as it's your wedding. My friend got married January 22, and had AHR May 30.

Me, I'm getting married October 22, and won't be having an AHR. My fiance is Dominican and can't get to Canada until summer '10 so we'll have a "Celebration BBQ" then.

We're getting married halloween and then having an AHR when we get home at the end of November. I didnt want it to be too far after the wedding, but wanted to have a week or so once we got back home. Also it shouldn't be too close to christmas, I hope!

I guess at the end of the day it has to be a time that works for you. It's your day (or days!) after all :-)

  • 2 weeks later...

I am getting married on October 17th and planning the AHR for April 17th. My fi and I live in Alberta but will be having our AHR in Nova Scotia (thats were his family and our friends are). We want to wait until April because he will be busy with work over the winter plus a lot of his family will be driving to NS from PEI and we don't want to end up with a snow storm the weekend of the reception and no one being able to make it!!

I/m getting married in JAnuary and I live in MInnesota so we will have to wait until the end of April to host the AHR.

I am from NIgeria so we will be doing another reception there in the summer of next year.

I guess it does not really matter as long as people feel that they have been a part of your celebration.

I am still torn between a formal reception versus a party but will make up my mind soon.

YUP -- three months later it will be for us, too!

We are getting married in Jamaica on May 14, 2010.....and then having our AHR on August 14, 2010, and we didn't feel that waiting 3 months was too long at all! Actually, it will be nice to have a little bit of a break between the two, and then we'll also have a little bit more time to save that all-important money to pay for it all! wink.gif

Plus, I thought it was fate when we were looking at dates for the AHR (choosing between July & August) that one of the Saturday dates fell on the 14th, so 8/14/10 it is!

We are getting married in November and since Christmas is so close we know people are too busy with Christmas parties and such so we are waiting until January to have ours. Also trying to book anything at that time won't happen because of all the Christmas parties. We figure this way we'll have our pictures/video done so everyone can see at the AHR. I don't think there is anything wrong with waiting at all. Have it when you want to have it!

Thats so funny! I am getting married in Mexico in May and having my Chesapeake Bay reception in July! I am waiting only 2 months. Really that decision was based on my guests who are coming to both. Its a lot to ask people to travel to Mexico then to Maryland the next week. My FI's parents live in SC.

I suppose if your friends & family all live in one area it would not matter as much, but we have only maybe 30% of invites to the AHR from Maryland.

Heres another question: can I have my wedding shower AFTER my wedding and before my AHR?!

yeah!!!! Don't sweat waiting a while for better weather, I am doing the same as most other brides "waiting". I hope to have my AHR arranged for late june, before the kids are out of school and people are going away on vacation. We are getting married in Feb.

show mom this thread and she'll get it.

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
