Best foundation etc for photos

Recommended Posts

Ugh. This thread is scaring me. I wear a tinted moisturizer and light shadow and that's it. But, I know I'll want to have a slightly more exotic look.....so I guess I need to go look around a little. The last thing I want to do is grab something the week before we leave and find out my skin breaks out when I put it on.

Thanks for the good ideas, at least I have a place to start.

Be careful with the light shadows if you are tanned - they can make your eyes look racoonish! I have my fav white shimmer shadow that I couldn't wear at the wedding!! You want to make sure that you don't use a lot of shimmer around your eyes either - the light will pick it up & in pictures it will totally make your eyes too bright!! The biggest advice I can give is do a test run for your makeup when you get there. Go out in the sunlight at the time of day that you are getting married & have a friend take pictures to see what your makeup looks like at the specific time(s) your pics are being taken!

For the canadian girls interested in the smashbox primer, I saw in the Shoppers Drug Mart flyer they have a Smashbox promo kit that comes with the primer and a bunch of other products for 50$. I don't know how much the primer sells individually but I would imagine it's half that price or more. I am planning on picking up that kit.

Everyone is talking about higher end make-up so I don't think this will be an issue but I want to warn you anyways against Maybelline cashmere perfect foundation.

I wore this on my wedding day and loved the look and feel but when I was looking at my photos I noticed that all the ones with flash the makeup is super obvious! It looks awful! My mom noticed right away in the pictures too and she was shocked because she said my foundation was not noticeable at all in person (and my mom is extremely detail and looks oriented and would ahve noticed if she could see foundation lines). I dismissed the incident but then it happened again a few months later that pictures were taken while I was wearing it and I look awful! I spoke to a cosmetician at Shoppers and she said it was likely the talk in the foundation that made it kinda reflect in the pictures.

My friend also recommends using this, but I thought she was full of sh*t....LOL...Now I'm tempted to go buy it and use ith with my Laura Mercier.
What exactly does the primer do?..even out fine lines etc?
No the primer is no joke...I actually thought the same. My girlfriend is a Laura Mercier make-up artist, and she swore by the Smashbox...shhhh ;-)

I purchased Photo Finish UVA/UVB SPF 15, it smooths on like silk, and make-up glides on, minimizes pores, make-up stays on longer, and makes make-up set better - flawless look! I love this stuff, and I purchased a few weeks ago and SWEAR by it!

While I LOVE MAC and NARS --- the best ever coverup is Philosophy Supernatural Airbrushed Canvas in SPF 15... it makes your skin look absolutely flawless! I apply it with a brush and not the sponge it comes with - and you can "spot" treat any red or acne extremely well and then just brush over it. I never have to use foundation/liquid with it while I do use Benefit Boi-ing for under and around my eyes. It's amazing and lightweight... I keep it in my purse at all times!

Ughhh...I'm glad I found this thread. I don't usually wear any make up at all, except for a little eyeliner on special occasions. I have no IDEA where to start with this.

I was just going to go into Sephora and let them talk me into spending a lot of money. I'm worried about getting make up done by the resort! I went into one a few months ago and just sort of inquired, and they did recommend the HD make up, and said NO bare minerals!

I better get on that soon!

cheers.gif Thank you SO much for this recommendation. I went out of town and the mall had a MAC counter and I bought the Studio Fix Foundation. IT IS GREAT!!! It covers so well! Do you use the sponge that comes with it or a brush?

Hi! I'm from Sudbury too originally, now in Toronto :-)
I've discovered great foundation you can get at any Shopper's Drug Mart in Canada. It's called No.7. It's actually made in Europe (France maybe?) and imported specifically for Shopper's. Not too expensive (cost me $23 for a bottle of foundation) and it is AWESOME!!! I have skin that flakes easily whenever I try wearing foundation, but this has not been an issue. It was recommended by my BD make-up artist.

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
