Hotel Milamores and other questions

Hi I have a few questions that I am going to bounce off the forum. First has anyone seen or heard anything about Hotel Milamores which used to be Casa Magna I think. It looks like a cool place in a fairly underdeveloped bit of beach but I don't know about the weddings there. Also, we are looking for cakes and I have seen Turtle Bay and Pastelateria mentioned here but is there anything else? I haven't been able to get in touch with either of this places and we are heading down Friday.

Hi Marie,

We had our reception at Milamores. Pam and Alberto, the new manager there did a wonderful job!!!! The hotel is spectacular. There are so many different rooms that you could use and I felt like a princess staying there.

We didn't do a fancy cake, but the chef at Milamores made one for desert that was so light and creamy. It was a wonderful desert but I have no idea how it looked before they cut it.

I contacted Hotel Milamores (through a wedding planner) based on their website and the rave reviews of a recent Milamores bride.

 

I was expecting their costs to be reasonable but I was shocked. The quote I got back was for packages starting at $150/pp and that doesn't include tax and gratuity. They wouldn't break it down for individual costs it's a per head cost.

 

I was sad because I was really hoping to include it in my list of potential wedding locations!

Thanks Malisa the pictures look great! We are trying to set up a meeting with them but they have not responded in quite sometime after initially being very good about responding. I am going to go by the hotel when we are down there. Thanks again for the response. TOGirl that is the price I was quoted but I couldn't tell what that included...

I haven't heard from them in quite a while either. I would definitely just stop by. They will drop everything to help you once you are there. On the price, I would just start negotiating. Their quote of $150/person includes, a 5 course dinner and an open bar and tip. I do not believe it includes the priest/shaman for the ceremony or any entertainment. But you should definitely ask. Her original quote to me for dinner was $100. When I told her it was too much she mentioned that it also included fire dancers and that if I wanted to arrange my own entertainment she would work on a dinner menu in my budget of $50/person. We agreed on a very pared down menu. However, what they ended up serving was quite a feast. I probably would have paid $75/person for our actual meal.

It included:

ceviche

guacamole

grilled prawns, lobster tail and fish (yes, that's three entrees per person)

nutella & cone

wonderful mousse cake

two glasses of wine/person

 

We ended up doing drinks a la carte and bringing in our own tequila. I know that the government has been cracking down on the liquor laws though, so it would be reasonable for them to deny this request at this time. We ended up having a three day bartab of $500 ($25/person). So that being said, if I had to negotiate the dinner and an open bar again I would be comfortable paying between $100-$130/person depending on your menu.

Thought I would share that I plan on dropping by Milamores while I'm in Tulum in a couple of weeks. If we don't have too many guests (and we're hoping not to) their price may be somewhat workable. Still more than I originally hoped to pay but we'll see.

 

And then there is always the art of negotiating!

I'm getting married at Milamores this November and couldn't be happier with this decision!!! My FI and I were in Tulum this past March and accidently stumbled upon the property and absolutely fell in love with it. While Milamores is beautiful, it was the amazing hospitality of the new owners that had us sold. Pamela and Alberto went out of their way during our visit and are sure to make our wedding a wonderful experience.

 

We have reserved the large villa for the weekend so some of our guests can stay there, and believe me when I say the rooms are fantastic. I am planning on posting some information about Milamores however I am waiting until their new website is up and running (in approximately 1 week) so that people can easily reference the hotel. I would be happy to share any information I have in the meantime.

Yes, it's true that Milamores now charges a flat fee of $150 per adult and $55 per child which includes a pretty extensive menu and open bar for 4-5 hours. I found this rate to be equivalent to other properties we visited in Tulum but what was really the deal maker for us was that Milamores does NOT charge a site fee, unlike other properties. After doing the calculations, my FI and I decided that for the type of wedding we wanted (intimate location, rustic-elegant venue, beautiful property, good feelings with ownership and management of the property, etc) it was more economical for us to proceed with Milamores.

I know the prices are not as cheap as one would hope, but you'll be getting something special if you choose to get married there or stay there.
