bad review of ROR?

Recommended Posts

Hi - I just wanted to get some people's inputs who have been to ROR. A friend of a friend just got back from a DW there last week and she said the bride and groom were not 100% satisfied for a few reasons:

1) on the wedding day, the B&G thought it was very impersonal, there are 3 other weddings (4 inc yours) going on on the day so all of the photographers, etc are very rushed.

2) there were some hidden extras too...flowers, private table,...etc.

3) because they were in a wedding party, even the excursions were more than advertised.

I argued with my friend because I have heard absolutely no negative comments until now...any thoughts from those who have been married there?

Interesting. As a previous ROR bride I didn't feel my wedding was impersonal. There was only one other wedding on my day but it was way earlier in the day.

I didn't have hidden extras either. I went with the free package and didn't upgrade anything. Obviously if you upgrade your flowers out of your package it's going to be more.

And third, my excursions were the same price as everyone else. I was not charged b/c it was my wedding. I haven't heard of that ever before.

I haven't been there, but something about the complaints the B&G had don't sound like they should've been surprises to me. They would know the resort does more than one wedding a day ahead of time, no? And, as Calia said, if you upgrade to better flowers or a private table, of course there would be a charge for that. That's not hidden information, its common sense. So, I would say not to worry. It could be that this B&G in particular just had unrealistic expectations or that they didn't gather as much information ahead of time as they should have. I'm sure your wedding and trip will be fantastic!

well, if they had done their research they probably would have been better prepared and not had expecations that were not going to be met.

ROR has more than 1 wedding a day. alot of the bigger resorts do more than a wedding a day. if they wanted to be the only wedding they should have chosen a resort that only does 1 wedding a day or got ROR to agree that they would be the only wedding (doubt they would do this...it would have to be a pretty big wedding).

2) there were some hidden extras too...flowers, private table,...etc. of course there are extra costs...unless they purchased a wedding package where these costs were included....how could they think they were NOT going to get charged for flowers, private reception etc....?

3) because they were in a wedding party, even the excursions were more than advertised. i have a hard time buying this...so they were given a price for excursions but saw it advertised lower?...well why didn't they just go with the lower priced excursion?...or was it different excursion companies?....different companies have different rates.

i think your friend just had unrealistic expectations....weddings cost more than just regular vacations...its not like AI really means all-inclusive including your wedding costs AND private events...if that was the case, why are the 2000 other guests not having FREE private events.

Ditto. AI DW's arent completely private events, even if you go ahead and pay for a private reception -- there are still how many other non-wedding guests at the resort? If that was what she/he expected than maybe they should have had their wedding elsewhere or back home. The "hidden" expenses are clearly laid out on Riu's website... or at least they were for me. There were 3 other weddings the day of mine and it never felt impersonal for us or our guests and we shared our reception with another bride and her party. I really dont even remember hearing them or seeing them. Its all what you make it.

I didn't have much negative to say on ROR. We had a very excellent vacation and a lot of good times.
I felt we were treated quite well on our wedding day. Bartenders and staff had our backs all day.
There were some things in which i shrugged off but I wouldn't say it was anything too major.
Three weddings on our day as well. I rather enjoyed it ...had a picture taken with another bride and we shared some of our experiences.

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
