jellyfish resturant

Recommended Posts

I agree with Natalie and after read all your review... I think jellyfish is cheaper for those hotels that extras as private dinner are expensive.. In my situation is more expensive jellyfish than Gran bahia principe. I will pay for a private dinner up to 40 pax US$ 750 and include basic drinks (beer, soft drinks, red and white house wine, juices and water). My wedding is just 30 peoples and I booked the Garden Grill Terrace for us. The WC told me that tables will be decorated with ceterpieces in tropical flowers, same we will use for the ceremony decoration. I think it will be nice. Ana the WC sent me pictures from the ceremony and restaurant...

THe dinner open bar includes red and white wine, beer, water, soft drinks and juice.

I also orded 6 bottles of champagne at $30 a bottle for the toast and cake cutting (looking back not sure how necessary that was). I then did two hours of the local open bar at $10 per hour per person. That was for after dinner during the dancing portion. After that I asked that it become a cash bar. I told JellyFish to let me know 30 min before the open bar was finished and I then I made an announcement to my guests. It worked out well.

Also, when you arrive, JellyFish has complimentary cocktails ready for all the guests. During the pre-meeting you get to taste different drinks and choose which ones you want offered. We went with Mojitos and a fruity cocktail (can't remember the name now). You also get to the taste the menu and make sure you like what you selected.
Thanks for sharing the "Dinner Open Bar" option- I had no idea but that will definitely save on costs. I figured people will be drinking after the ceremony on the resort so even if we slowed things down during dinner, it shouldn't be an issue.

How long did dinner last? Was it 1 complimentary drink per guest?

Really glad there is a pre-meeting to try to the food...I am customizing my menu.

One last question, did you go with the decorations package? If so, did the silk flowers look real?

Hi Lisa,

Our dinner lasted 3 and a half hours (including toasts, performances by family members, and speeches etc.). Then we had our first dance which started the dancing portion and open bar.

I think it was one complimentary drink per guest. I'm not sure because I was in the back hiding and waiting to make my grand entrance :)

I did select the decoration package but we went with "sea side" theme (can't remember the exact name) so we didn't have silk flowers but seashells and star fish etc. I'll post pics in my review. Will try to get it up this weekend.

Cheers,
Meli

Hi Meli,

I'm so looking forward to your review/pictures :)

Hi Ladies,

So, I booked the jellyfish for the 14th of January, but I haven't heard anything since. She did email me the potential menu and "open bar" options but I am kind of getting the idea that we can customize the menu? Also, did she email you with different pics of the decorations she offers? I am curious to see how much and what they consist of. If I could ask... what is the approx price of just renting the downstairs versus the whole restaurant? I originally was going to rent the whole place, but I don't really feel that is necessary anymore. Should I be concerned that I don't have a written agreement confirming our date there? Wow.... I might sound a little nerotic here! :) Just looking for a little advice from some more experienced DWB's here!

Laura,

Yes, you can customize the menu- just email her the options you want and she will send you a quote. I think the decorations package is $500- includes silk flowers only and if you want real flowers, you will need to send her pictures of what you want and she will need to get a quote from the supplier. If you ask, she will send you a bunch of pictures of sample decorated tables. To rent the downstairs only, there is no fee...it's $1000 if you want the entire restaurant. From what I hear, it's not really necessary to rent the entire restaurant- outside guests will only dine upstairs and they usually are respectful. Once you have things finalized, you will need to put a 10% deposit down, but there is no contract really until then. I hope that makes sense. Good luck with your planning!

Thanks for sharing Meli!!
Does anyone know if they still offer "Dinner Open Bar"?

Other questions...

1.) For those that had their ceremony at the Jellyfish, what did you do for drinks before/after the ceremony? I would like guests to be able to drink but I'm concerned 4-5 hrs of Open Bar could get expensive.
3.) Do they hold more than one wedding reception at a time? I've noticed pictures of the tents outdoors, so i was wondering if this would block the ocean view if you're having your reception indoors.
4.)What does the ceremony set on the beach ($500) include?
5.)How many guests does downstairs seat? And is there a dancefloor? Can you plug your iPod into their stereo?

Thanks in advance!

Cristina,

1. Mayte made us a `signature drink``, blue pina coladas, and waiters served them before the wedding, as well as after the wedding while my husband and I were getting our photos taken. They didn`t charge us for any of those drinks. During dinner, we didn`t have many people (11 people) and a couple of people didn`t drink a whole lot of alcohol, so we just ran a tab, which worked out fine in our situation and was MUCH cheaper than we anticipated.

3. I don`t think so, but not 100% positive on this. We had our reception in the upstairs part of the restaurant, but went downstairs in front of the restaurant for the firedancers show, which would be pretty darn close to where I think the tents are usually set up....

4. For us, the set up included chairs, covers, arch, decorative things on the table, material over the arch to match our wedding colours, and I think that`s it, but Mayte would better be able to answer that one.

5. I suck at estimating, so I`m not going to even take a guess at the capacity for the downstairs... it`s big though and I think it would accomodate most destination wedding groups. No dance floor, but they left space upstairs for us and we did our father&daughter, mother&son, and first dance there with plenty of room. No, you can`t plug your ipod into their main restaurant stereo. We bought a little stereo for like 50$ and used our ipod with it and it worked fine.

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
