Dress got wet and has rings - will this go away or can I consider my dress ruined?

Recommended Posts

Hello girls,

I need a piece of advise here ! During our photo shoot after the wedding, my dress got wet at the bottom by walking too close to the water. It is silk, and it made a ring at the bottom. The dress also got filthy from sand and the stuff they put on the wooden floor (the most worrying - orange-like stains, the product is probably an oil or some waxy stuff). I originally wanted to preserve my dress to donate it and got another dress for the TTD. I'm now wondering if my dress is not ruined anyway... and if I should just use it for the TTD (which is tomorrow).

Any advise here ? Do you think the rings can go away ? And the stains ?

Thanks ladies,

Ayita

I am not sure about the stains, but I say you might as well use it for your TDD. Plus, maybe if you get it all wet in the ocean, the rings will come out. For the stains from the floor, that will probably require some spot treatment to remove. I think the rings are just from dirt already being on the bottom, then getting wet, so I don't think that is permanent.

Honestly, since your dress is silk, I'm not sure that's going to come out. I was asking the tailor last night about FI's suit getting wet (it's silk) and he said if it gets soaked, it will ruin it. I say just use it for TTD and donate your original TTD.

I don't know if the rings will come out. I had a satin gown that got wet on the bottom (I lent it to a "friend") She never even told me - just gave me the gown back (stains & all). Even though she had it dry-cleaned, the actual feel of the materials changed. It became stiffer and the rings still showed. Not sure what silk acts like when it gets wet. Also, maybe the orange color is from the stain they used to paint the deck. I guess that would depend if it was water or oil-based (if that's what it is, but sounds like it...)

WEAR YOUR REAL DRESS FOR THE TTD....

my dress was made of french silk taffeta - and was more clean after my TTD !

and as others have said... a drycleaner can work magic when you get home...

Speaking of that... GO ON... ENJOY YOUR TIME ON HOLIDAYS!!!!

Congratulations!

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
