Same here sad.gif It sucks but its not FI's fault he was born into a weird & broken family. My parent's aren't that well-off either, I'm just starting law school, and FI went back to school- this should be interesting.

We are paying for this all on our own also. But we said it from the beginning that it was going to be like this. We didnt want to expect anything then get nothing. MIL said she would give us a few thousand and came up with $O.OO cents last minute. Overall, we paid for everything and not complaining. It is what it is..

love this thread! my mom only had 14 people at her wedding, and on top of that i am the only daughter and granddaughter. My parents went to a DW and fell in love with the idea so they are paying for pretty much everything. MY FI's parents refuse to give money because it's his 2nd marriage and they already contributed 10K to the bitch that cheated then left him after a year (hes only 27 and we've been together 2 years...). I'm trying not to be bitter about it because they stated that they have the money but they already contributed to "1 wedding". I consider myself lucky that my parents are willing (and able) to bear the cost and we decided to help and pay for our honeymoon!!! I agree with Virg though, we just avoid the topic so its not awkward!!

Dad said he would pay for our trip but I refused - our wedding our problem.

FMIL said she would give us a wedding present of cash! Yeah £200 lol apparently thats what she has given all the kids (there are 4 including FI) lol I said oh how did she pay for a wedding with £200 lol

In other words she paid for the other weddings and then gave them £200 but FI just gets the £200! lol I couldn't care less it's less to tell her to shove up her arse if you ask me lol

The FI and I are doing everything on our own. I have had a couple family members complain at the fact that we're living together and we're going to be engaged for over a year and a half before the wedding. The DW is the way to go. It saves us money and we don't have to invite those annoying extended family members or your mother's friends who you absolutely hate. :)

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
