(unless it's couture I guess, but thats big bucks)
So David's Bridal actually has larger sizes to try on? The stores around where I live you can order plus sizes if you buy the dress, but they don't have any to try on in the stores. That goes for bridesmaid and wedding dresses. It is so frustrating, and makes you feel horrible that nothing will fit!

yes, davids bridal has sizes in store up to a 22 or 24 i think. as for other shops, call ahead and ask ... if they want your business, they won't be rude. even when places *do* carry larger sizes, the dress selection does starts getting a little slim as you go bigger. i am about a 16 on top but a 20 on bottom, so it was a no-brainer that i needed to go with an a-line or ballroom cut. because i'm smaller on top, i was able to try on many dresses as long as they were that full cut on the bottom half. also, if you see a dress you like in a size smaller than you wear, but it happens to have a corset-back, TRY IT ON! you will be able to loosen the corset ties at least enough to get it on your body and get an idea of what it could look like.

You say you're in Ontario. I don't know where exactly you are, but there are aquite a few shops in the GTA that do carry larger sample sizes.

I had some upsetting moments during the whole shopping process where I thought I would never find something and I thought that because I was having a DW I had to have some slinkly little dress that only looks good on a smaller/skinnier person. I did go into one shop where they completely ignored me and didn't carry a sample size higher than 10. I waited 10 minutes and then walked out. If they didn't need my business, why am I wasting my time there?

I bought my dress at Becker's Bridal on The Danforth. It's Allure Woman's (a plus size line. I bought a 26 (which is actually too big for me), but I tried on a twenty. I ended up with a more traditional dress, but I love it and it looks great on me.

I decided that I was only trying on the plus size samples. It help me narrow down my choices, but I can tell you I must have tried on at least 50 dresses. There are plus size samples!

If you're in the GTA and need some dress shop ideas, you should try:

Beckers Bridal - Toronto

The Dressing Room - Toronto

Chris & Tina's - Toronto

Everlasting Memories - Port Perry

Bliss Bridal - Whitby

Windosr Bridal - Toronto (although I should probably tell you, I didn't go here because I had a horrible experience when I went with a Friend when she was buying her gown and I have heard some bad things about the place, but they do have a large selection of plus size gowns).

These are just a few, but if you call around to shops in your area, I'm sure you'll find they do carry larger sample gowns.

don't fret, girls ... there are beautiful dresses out there for us. just be real about what styles look best on your shape (i would have loved something slinky, mermaid, or especially trumpet, but those just don't work with my hips)!

Hi ladies! I have gained so much weight since starting Clomid (I am on my fourth cycle of it) that I am up to 175 lbs. I was 135 lbs. at our wedding last year!!!! I wore an 8 at our wedding and now I am in a 14 pants (but its hard to find long inseams) and I have bought a lot of maternity tops since they fit loose and cover my curves. I am working diligently to try to lose this weight - but I think Clomid allows your body to have a mind of its own, regardless of how much one works out...

Hey ladies! For swimwear that is actually constructed well and cut RIGHT, try:

Women's Clothing, Swimwear, Shoes, Accessories and more at Newport-News.com

I actually bought a suit from there right after the kids were born, and it was too big in my regular street size. That normally does NOT happen with the Venus' and Victoria's Secret's of the world. lol The material is well made and they have some really cute stuff that just so happens to come in bigger sizes..not the ho hum bullshit they normally try to force on women over size 10. lol

They even have this ShapeFX stuff...cut to minimize some problem areas and STILL cute! lol

mummergirl - you look beautiful in your dress! good luck with the wedding seeing as it's only a week away WOO HOO!!

LIW - thanks for posting the names of some stores for us Canadian gals! Here in Sudbury, we only have 2 or 3 dress shops, so it makes it more difficult to find something plus size. I would be definitely making a trip to TO if my aunt wasn't making my dress.

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
