A wedding game- Add one thing & take one away

Even though my one year anniversary is coming up, I still keep up with the "what I would & wouldn't do" thread. That gave me the idea for a game that might be fun & helpful.

For those married:

If you could add something to your wedding, what would it be?

What would you cut to free up the money?

For those to be married:

If you had a $500 wedding stimulus check to add something that you are not already having, what would you add?

If you had to cut $500 from your budget, what would you cut?

My answer:

I'd like to add a mariachi band to play right after the ceremony. As soon as we were married, we had a champagne toast. But, then I felt like everyone was looking at us like, "what do we do now?" I think a band would have increased the excitement & taken the focus off us so we could just enjoy the moment. I get really uncomfortable as the center of attention. I also think it would have made for some really cool pictures.

To free up the extra money, I'd cut the OOT bags. I had fun making them, but they really were not needed. Most of our guests only stayed 3 nights & didn't even have time to open the bags. I think they would have enjoyed a band more.

Oh this is kind of tough because i loved my wedding so much... but I think maybe I'd buy a video of the wedding with the extra $500huh.gif

If I had to cut $500... I wouldn't have bought my first disaster of a wedding dress for $527!!! GRRRRR!!!!

And if that doesn't count, then the bridesmaids could have paid for their own makeup & nails... but I treated them instead.

ooh good thread morgan! i am always saying to doug "the next time we get married i want to...."

i would cut the entire BFW (our at home wedding).

i would add the entire wedding at Las Caletas in puerto vallarta.

and i really like your add of a mariachi band, that would have been a good investment!

I would have absolutely added a videographer. And if there were $$ leftover, I would have added more DJ time and partied into the night.

To give up, I would have to go with the snorkel tour we arranged. It was great fun, but only about 1/2 the people went (and DH didn't!).

To cut $$, I think I'm considering not doing OOT bags and just doing mugs for everyone.
I was talking to a wedding guest at our site visit last week, because I noticed his personalized wedding mug. He said that they filled it with candy and a hangover kit. That might be a nice alternative to OOTs.

For me: If I had more money, I would help pay for some of my wedding party.

To cut money, I might try doing my own hair and makeup or cut the cake (so to speak).

This is a great thread.

If I had more money, I would have paid for all of the wedding guest to do some sort of a day excursion together.

I would have brought more decroations. I felt like it wasnt wedding "ish" enough.

I would have cut out......not upgrading my cake. I should have gone with a simple one tierd cake, I didnt eat any cake, and im not sure how many of my guests did. I just remember leaving for the night, glansing at the cake, and thinking that there was a lot left over.

This is definitely a cool thread Morgan.

In retrospect, I loved everything about my DW. But, if I could, I would've added 2 things, the steel drum band to play right after the ceremony, just to give it more of a "Jamaican flare" & fire dancers, had I known that the dancers were an option. I think my guests would've gotten a big kick about the fire dancers.

Hmmm....what to take away is a tough one cuz I think we were pretty basic with all of our details. The one thing that comes to mind is my dress. Although I loved it & it wasn't over the top expensive, I sometimes think that I should've gotten a sexier or beachier dress...if that makes sense....& it may have been less expensive.

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
