Swine Brides **Support Thread**

Hi ladies,

First off, I'd like to say I laughed out loud when I saw the title of this thread... 'Swine Brides'. Gotta love it. The fact that I'm still capable of laughter at this point is a good sign.

Second, I was forced to cancel my wedding on May 7th, 2009 because Air Canada Vacations has stopped all flights to Mexico for the month of May. Since 95% of my 55 guests booked using this tour company, we had no choice but to cancel. Sigh. Over a year's hard work down the drain.

Third, the good news. We have re-scheduled our wedding! It only took 2 days, an amazing future husband, an amazing sister, an amazing travel agent and many, many hours of phone conversations. We are now going to Iberostar Rose Hall Suites in Jamaica. Of our 55 guests, 36 have re-booked with us and we're awaiting word on a few more. Yes, not everyone could make it to Jamaica because of work-related conflicts. Yes, I only have a few short weeks to plan my 'new' wedding. But Yes! I am getting married to my wonderful future husband in a few short weeks!

I hope everyone is OK. If he's the right guy, it'll be the right place, no matter what plans you have to change. Thinking of you all... I really empathize.

I thought I'd start a new thread just for Cabo May/June brides to discuss their concerns and ideas for keeping their wedding in Cabo - I know a bunch of us posted on Almosaseif's thread, but I wanted that one to be for her - so sad that she had to cancel.

My wedding is on May 30, 2009 at the Hilton Los Cabos and we leave for Mexico on May 24th. We are just playing the wating game right now, figuring that things should be much clearer in the next week. None of my guests are threatening to cancel or even bothering me - those I have spoke to have been pretty pragmatic and said let's just wait and see and fully expect to be in Cabo at the end of May. At this point we think you can get it anywhere, people are recovering just like with the regular flu and there's no greater chance of getting it in Cabo. It so annoys me that all the statements blanket Mexico when there are only certain areas that have it!!

There are still no reported cases of it in Cabo as far as I can find and both my photographer and florist today told me everything is pretty much normal down there for them. My florist, for what it's worth, said she has many confirmed bookings for May and there are no problems.

Anyways, just wanted to say we're remaining confident (while stressing inside) that we will be getting married May 30th in CABO in front of all our loved ones. We are not making a back-up plan yet - if it comes to that we'll throw something together with 2 weeks to go in vegas or something, but we don't think that will happen.

For those of you getting married in the next 2 weeks, I feel for you and completely understand if you changed plans. For the rest of us, I say stay strong ladies and keep the Cabo dream weddings alive!!smile29.gif

This sucks. I am getting married in Belize next weekend and half of our guests have already cancelled. We're not even going to Mexico! I hate this f*&%ing flu. I am thankful that, as of now, my wedding is still scheduled to take place. I hate to think about all the weddings that have been cancelled. What about the brides whose weddings have been cancelled... what are you going to do during the week/weekend you were scheduled to be married? Are you going to go to work, go on a local vacation, sit at home and cry, etc? I hate to think about the brides who will be at work when they should be getting married on the beach!

My heart goes to you. I am debating on changing my mind from Mexico to Cuba (2nd choise) because of everyone's hesitation on this matter. My wedding isnt until 2011, but thinking of my guests freaking out (which they already are) it makes our lives worse.

There are going to have virus's everywhere in the world...just stay healthy and wash your hands....thats all you can do!

Good luck, and stay strong for your guests. They need you to be positive...

Thanks, I was trying to add a bit of humor to a frustrating and sad situation, hope everyone took it that way!

Amen to that sister!! I'm sick and tired of hearing swine flu crap! I'm one of those brides whose wedding got cancelled. We are still going to go ahead and go somewhere on vacation, and as for what I'm doing the day I was supposed to get married 5.23.09, I'm opting for the crying selection! followed by drinking! Thanks for the thread, cause the brides gotta vent somewhere!

I have a little bit of a vent here.

Is it just me or are total strangers telling you that you shouldn't be having your wedding in mexico? I went to get a pedicure last night and the lady at the counter went ON AND ON about how I should have my wedding at home and how they are going to CLOSE the mexican boarder and then what would I do? I very rudely told her that was not a concern right now and I wasn't going to waste my time worrying about what COULD (not likely) happen when I have several actual problems to deal with. I almost punched her!

The problem is that she is the 4th person that i don't even know to tell me not to have my wedding in mexico...who do these people think they are? And who does this to a bride who just had to push back her wedding to a really inconvenient time for herself and guests...what a jerk!

I am just about to the point of telling people off. Everyone just wants the gossip and has no regard for the fact that this is something heartbreaking to me...and I am so fucking tired of other people's opinions.

One of the reasons I was so disappointed that it got pushed back was because I now have to listen to everyone else for another 2 months! I can't wait for the fun part of this to happen already.

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
