Resort Tax On All Svcs and Fees > Is this Standard?

Recommended Posts

Hello,

We are finalizing our wedding details and recently found out that the resort is charging a 20% tax/service charge on all items that we purchase through them, including vendor fees, decor, set-ups, etc. We expected to pay a tax and service charge on food and beverage, but were a little surprised that the tax/svc charge is applied to everything (since this bumps up our music, florist and photography fees that are from outside vendors). Especially since they require that we book vendors through them.

Is this tax normal? When we asked they said this is customary for all resorts, so I wanted to get some perspectives from other brides. Note, we are not at an AI, so all of our costs are essentially a la carte.

Thanks for any info on this!

Cheers,

jamie

I know that some hotels say that if you decide to use outside vendors they will charge a fee but not tax...Aslo, there may be gratuity included in the food service or drink service but not a tax.

Sorry, hopefully someone has more information about this. Would this included in your contract?

resorts in mexico run their own rules. it's nuts. one minute they tell you one thing next minute they change (forthe worse)

i was at Palace Playacar for a friend's wedding, they didn't bother to take off the taxes for my resort credits until I showed them the paperwork stating there's NO taxes if booked before april 1.  then when i used the resort credits to buy tequila at the gift shop(by the way 200 dollars for a generic unheard of brand is ridiculous) i was told it has to be taxed since its' not a service. I paid it. 20 bucks in taxes which is about what the damn thing cost.

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
