sorry, i REALLY hate to hijack poor kara's thread but i just cant stand the thought of people adding to the hype and media sensationalism.

um, actually i would feel comfortable going there even today. its the flu. a highly contagious version of it, but it wont hurt you unless you dont stay hydrated or go to the doctor if you realize its worse than mild. YES the flu sucks, and yes its horrible and heartbreaking that people (mexican locals in mexico) are dying because they dont have the means to stay healthy or get to a doctor. but even with all that, i would still feel comfortable going.

again, im sorry to interrupt kara, i really am. i just want to make sure your thread stays about YOU and your wedding and the fact that you didnt cancel your wedding because you were afraid, but because your travel company forced you to by cancelling all their flights/ bookings. it was horribly out of your control and i am truly sorry for that

You aren't the only one unfortunately. I'm waiting to hear if mine is cancelled 2 but i think it will be and as they've stopped flights to the 8th and we go on the 11th for added complication FI is in the army, got special permission for this time off, and goes to Afghanistan in June !

So trust me I feel your pain!

Wow Kara, I am so very sorry that this is happening to you. Is there any possible way that you could change your location and still get married? Like can you go to Cuba or Jamaica or the Dominican or somewhere else? I would just hate for you to have to cancel your wedding altogether because of this silliness. I can't believe they actually canceled the flights, cowards!! Its the flu for f&%#sakes! I had the flu twice this year and guess what, I am still alive, idiots!

So how does this work when a TA, Airline, resort etc cancels an event? Are all monies returned? Do they allow you to chose another date?

            What an awful thing!

Kara, my heart goes out to you... Have you looked into the possibility of changing the destination? I know Sunquest is offering switches to affected travellers, maybe you can find a resort in Cuba/Dominican/Jamaica/etc... that has a day available for a wedding? I really hope things work out!!! I'm keeping a close eye on the situation too since we're supposed to be leaving on June 20th for Mexico...

THis is unreal... the overwhelming hype that has come with this is now changing all your plans because of peoples panic. I am so sorry for you. You will still get your dream wedding... maybe just not the way you orginally thought.

I am so sorry that you are going through this. I completely agree with Abbie that much of this is just hype. Unfortunately, you can't change the way that people react to the hype.

I am so disgusted that your TA or Airline (I am not familiar with SunQuest) has acted so irresponsibly. I send you all my hugs, prayers and well-wishes.

Kara, this happened to me too. I wish I could tell you some way to feel better but I haven't figured it out myself.
