Someone, please stop me! Advice on decor.

Recommended Posts

I miss you guys!!! I feel like my head is going to fall off and I have no time to do anything. We left on April 16th and got back on May 8th and I haven't been able to stop and breathe. I am having a reception for about 70 in NC where we live on June 2nd and then one for about 50 people in NJ where my husband is from on June 16th. We are paying and doing all of it and I am not sure I am going to be able to pull it off without losing my mind.

I am doing the one here in our back yard and am trying to decorate as inexpensive as possible. I am doing a dozen tables with white tablecloths and a hurricane in the center with a candle and sand inside. My colors were light blue/turqouise and green (like a cymbidium orchid), so I am thinking of putting a little tulle around the hurricanes and maybe tie some to every other chair or something.

I am putting the tables all around the yard and am wanting to tie tulle in the blue, green and white to the trees and hang white paper lanterns in all of the trees with the led tea lights (which I can't find cheap, and I need like 24-30). I have an arbor off the back of my house covered in vines and am thinking of putting white lights in it and also in a gazebo I have in the back. We are doing the party at 6, dinner at 7 and then I rented one of those jumbo blow up movie screens and a projector to play the DVD on. So, most of the reception will be in the dark.

I just dont feel like I have enough decor going on. I want it to be white and flowy and tons of candles/lights, but I have a small budget.

Anyone got any ideas or know anywhere that I can go that would be local to get candles/led lights/paper lanterns, etc cheap?

I only have a little less than two weeks, agghhhhhhhhhhhh! I am married and can't even relax, lol, I feel like I am getting married again.

Mishi, dollar tree had battery operated colored lanterns, kind of like the one ladyP posted, I would also check out the other stuff they have, they have a lot of wedding related stuff and a lot of just tropical kind of things.

And if its going to be dark I would do a lot of candles, what about some tiki torches??

hmm, let me think some more

An idea for the hurricanes (if you didn't want tulle on the tables) is to use colored sand. You could do a pattern, kind of like the sand ceremony. Layer normal sand, then blue sand, then normal sand, then green sand. Of course do it at different angles to get a really cool effect.

Other than that, Hobby Lobby (if you have them where you are) has votive candles in glasses $4.99 for 12 of them. Plus, if you wait until next week there will be a 40% off coupon. Well, at least here there is! Not sure if that is how all of the stores work! But, since the candle is already in a glass dish, it saves on cost and looks much nicer.

I used white lanterns for my wedding ceremony...got them at Ikea for pretty cheap and they were great. I also ordered these little battery operated light bulbs from Asian Ideas. They were cool! They are seriously just little battery packs (they take AAA size batteries) with a tiny light bulb on them. They are best in the smaller size lanterns...not bigger than maybe 12in or so. BUT you can use two of them to light a bigger size lantern if needed. I used fishing line to hang the lanterns as well as suspend the little lights inside them. Here's the link. They have TONS of other wiring and lighting options as well...this is just the link for their battery operated stuff. Also, they do have tons of lanterns. . .and I think the prices are good. GOod luck!!!!

Here's the website...the lanterns and stuff are under the Home Decor catagory.

Japanese Kimonos, Chinese Paper Lanterns, Chopsticks, Chinese Dresses

Here's a link straight to the little lighting things!

Thank you, Thank You! You just saved me $15.50! I ordered paper lanterns from paperlanternstore.com last night. The wire ones I wanted were out of stock for the last month so I ordered bamboo.. anyhow, I was able to cancel my order this morning and order from asianideas.com, got the ones I originally wanted and saved some cash! woohoo!

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
