Pool Side Weddings?

Those are such beautiful pictures. I'm so excited that a poolside ceremony might be an option. With candles all around I just think it would be so elegant and gorgeous. I cant wait to really start planning.

Thanks everyone.

Lots of loud musicrockon.gif , lots of activities, lots of drinking, etc.shots.gif Not that this is a bad thing if that's what you're in to- again, we had a blast while we were there last month. But, we loved the smaller, more laid-back atmosphere of Dreams when we went for a visit. Because it is a smaller property, there were just less people in general (read:less gawkers for our wedding!) and it just felt more intimate for our families. I think it just depends on what you want.
I've been to both places, so if you have any other questions, just ask!
Sarah,
Thanks for the tip. We are a partying type of crowd, most of us in our late 20's to early 30's but it would definitly be nice to have a more laid back atmosphere for our family and older guests. oh boy, decisions decisions...

Just wanted to throw some advice in too...

I agree with what Sarah said about Riu vs Dreams. They are both absolutely beautiful and I'm sure you will love either one. One of the reasons I chose the Riu is because of its proximity to town. It's a very short drive and only a $10 cab ride. This convienience was important to me so that people can feel free to get out and enjoy town too without it being too much of a hassel. Also, I liked the fact that the Riu is a little larger because it will give people a little more breathing room. While everyone is going to want to be together alot, a week is still a long time and I think people would appreciate being able to get "away" from everyone (especially when parents/olderish kids are involed) when they choose too.

Just my 2 cents. I would highly reccommend visiting both though and getting a feel for yourself!

Thanks Kristina,
Ive been doing a lot of looking at both their website. And being close to Cabo Wabo and all the in town hot spots is definitely a plus. For some reason I've been leaning towards the Riu. They both seem great but RIU's look just appeals to me more. And the idea of a firepitt RD/Welcoming party for only 1500.00 bucks sounds like such a great idea. The only down side I can see is that Riu's wedding coordinator seems to be hard to get a hold of most the time.

Yes, I have heard the same.. but all of the girls said that MOST of the stuff is actually taken care of once you are there, and they were happy in the end. So if you can stay calm and not worry about every detail too far in advance, I'm sure you will be fine. **I'm trying the do the same** haha Sooo much easier said than done.

I'm getting married in July 2008 *tentatively*, so we'll be on a similar timeline... if you do end up choosing the Riu we can help eachother and share bits and pieces we get from them!

Good luck with your decision!!

Yes, it sounds like we might become great sources of info for each other in the near future. I'm so glad I found this website. Their is so much useful information that I couldn't imagine finding anywhere else. Are you planning on using a coordinator? Destinationweddings.com says that they offer both the Bride/Groom and all their guests payment plans so that when they book they don't have to pay for the travel up front in one lump sum. I think that may be real helpful for a good number of my guests. The down side to them would be that they are not based directly in Cabo, and I haven't heard of any of the girls on this site using them, although I do have a friend that used them and was pleased with their work.

jackie,
1- destination weddings has horrible reviews and lots of unhappy brides
2-most of the time you just have to put a deposit(can be as low as $100 per person) and don't have to pay until 60 days prior to wedding.

3-there are lots of riu brides that are getting married 2007 so i am sure all of you guys can be helpful towards each other. stephanie (raenjay) is one of them.
4- you will see when you are trying to get prices that all the cabo brides on here will be such a resource to you whether they are hilton brides or riu brides. jiggy.gif

Jackie & Kristina-

I did hear (and I don't remember when or who told me this) that the Riu doesn't allow outside coordinators. This may have come from Maye Cortinas, a coordinator I have been considering. Just one thing you might want to look in to. Maybe others who are getting married at the Riu could verify this.

Yes, Tammy the other Riu brides (and everyone on the site) are all super helpful and just FULL off good info! I'm also excited to hear about Wendy's upcoming wedding at the RIU (that's this week isn't it??) She should have loads of info of how everything turned out.

Sarah- i also read that too about them not allowing an outside coordinator... the only good side to that is that with all the info on this site, I feel like I can totally do it myself! I think I also heard that they recently got a newer on-site coordinator? Maybe with a litttle time she'll get better and more responsive. I'm not sure as I haven't actually booked with them yet.. we'll see!

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
