GARTER BELTS are out

Recommended Posts

if you want original, you probably need to come up with it yourself. nylalany did some really unique stuff at her wedding. search & you'll find her review. All the guests threw rocks in the water & she hung a picture frame on her husband.

We did the hand ceremony which i really loved. Many of the traditional wedding things didn't suite us. I've been in a lot of weddings, so I've gotten bored with the typical wedding traditions.

Well put Morgan...

Along with previous posts I agree that one girls "cheese" is another girls "please"!

We did a hand ceremony, the toss bouquet and the garter toss, but we did have a few (what I think were) unique aspects

For our wedding our wedding planner suggested at the eleventh hour (based on another DW she'd been to) to have seashells given to all guests to toss in the ocean to make a wish for the newlyweds. I loved the idea and it came together perfectly! I think the wedding planner combed the beach to come up with enough shells!

We also had a cocktail/cigar hour between the ceremony and reception. Being in Cuba, we had to do something with Cigars, and thought that this was a fitting spot. We used the small little cigars for this as only one or two of our guests actually smoke.

We also did personalized thank you cards to all guests to thank them for their presence at our DW (I stole this idea from someone too). Some of the cards were serious and heartfelt, and some were really funny - see example below, given to the husband of my bridesmaid.

I had a sand ceremony and none of our guests thought it was "cheesy."

Your post was rather inconsiderate of people that had (or are planning to have) a sand ceremony and/or wear a garter belt.

Try Google.

Wow! I totally apologize if I offended anyone, that was not my intent. You are right, the wording was wrong- I got engaged in front of Cinderella's castle at Disney World, which is the cheesiest thing I have ever heard of, but it meant the WORLD to me. I did not mean cheesie to be derogatory. I guess what i meant, was I need something in my wedding that's new to me. Again, I am so sorry if I was out of line with my wording.

Sorry that I got really pissed off and was mean about it, but I felt really bad for all the new brides who want to do a sand ceremony and have a garter and are now reconsidering because someone said they are cheesy. It is hard to display what we really mean when just typing, so in future please think before you tell people that something they are doing is cheesy :) I hope you find that special something new that you are looking for.

I am thankful and glad this dispute got resolved. Being an understanding person, one has to not always take things at face value. Anyone who thought that bumblebee was trying to intentionally insult anyone needs to get a grip. Sometimes people use a poor choice of wording as we have seen here. It doesnt mean they are malicious and certainly doesnt require a snotty/pissy/bitchy response. Rather, why not respect their views and try to help them as I am sure you were in need to advise while planning your wedding. Though some of you may be senior or VIP members, you needed help too...and may have said some inappropriate things when you were a noob or junior member....maybe whomever felt insulted just let it be and didnt bother responding.

Just something to think about.....

No worries Bubblebee 287, everyone on this forum is looking to create a special and meaningful celebration and that comes in many different forms.

One thing my fiance and I are doing is putting a twist on the old tradition of "something old, new, borrowed, and blue". During our cocktail hour we will have have 4 signature drinks that are as follows:

1. something old: classic margarita

2. something new: mango mojito (or something like that)

3. something borrowed: lemonade, non-alcoholic - this is my FI mother's recipe who has passes and will be one of many ways we honor her memory throughout our wedding

4. something blue: mineral water with fresh blueberries

We will also do a sand ceremony with another slight twist. I grew up on the West coast while he grew up on the East coast therefore, we will bring a small amount of sand from both locations and merge it with the sand from where we marry.

There are so many great ideas that will inspire you so that your personalities will truly be reflected throughout your wedding. Good luck!

i love your something old, etc.

I really think the best way to keep it non-cheesy is to make it personal. things get cheesy when they become a cliche or people are just so tired of them. None of our guests had seen the hand ceremony so it was unique. the other day i was watching a show where the couple got married at one of those places that does a wedding an hour and they did the hand ceremony. so who knows, it might be something i'd consider cheesy in a few years but then Im already married so who cares. I don't mind looking back at my wedding & thinking "wow, that was so 2008." I'm actually pretty curious what I'll laugh at from my wedding. you know the old pictures where the grooms men are all wearing plaid suites? I wonder what will be our wedding's plaid suite?

anyway, I think real & authentic stands the test of time. so just make it true to who you are as a couple.
