vows/legal ceremony question

Recommended Posts

Hi,

So we are doing our legal ceremony a few days before we leave with our 2 good friends that cannot travel to Mexico.

I wasn't planning on saying vows but can someone who's done it shed some light please? I mean our "real" ceremony will be in Mexico but I also know this will be meaningful in a way as well.

What happens?

We had to get legally married last month and our official wedding is not until June 12th. We are having a Catholic ceremony and one of the requirements was that we be legally married beforehand and be able to send all of our paperwork 2 months prior to our wedding. We found a woman in our neighborhood who could perform the legal ceremony and just showed up at her house in jeans and a t-shirt and said our "I do's." We wanted to keep it as simple as possible. We haven't really told anyone that we got married, it's just our little secret.

We plan to do our legal ceremony in our backyard with our parents and grandparents (who can't come to the DW). We will just say what we have to say to make it legal - no dress, no rings, no decorations. We will write our own vows for our DW in June. We will also take our family out for lunch after the legal ceremony, so it is something nice for them to participate in. Hope that helps.

I think we are just planning on going to the court house the week before to make everything legal. I'm probably going to get a pretty dress and FI will probably dress up. I don't want to say our vows there so that we can save it to make the DW really special. Just my two cents though............

We found an ordained minister that will meet us. We have decided to go to the park that we had our engagement photos done. We will dress casual, hold hands, and exchange religious vows. We will save the ring exchange for the Big Ceremony in Mexico. It will only be the three of us and we will not tell anyone about it, even my boys. Most people know we are not going to have the legal ceremony in Mexico, they just don't know when the actual event will happen.

A word of caution, check with the resort you are having your ceremony at. They may require documentation. We have to bring a certified copy of our license with us to Mexico. For some, that takes a couple weeks to get.

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
