Hi Mags,

Congrats on your upcoming wedding! I noticed that you aren't getting married until 2011. That gives you ample time to do your research and find a TA to help you.

From my experience in researching, we could not find an AI in Jamaica with airfare for a full week for less than $1500. We did find a 4 night stay so we offered guests 2 packages - 4 night for $1500 and a 7 night for $2000.

I always find that making lists helps me keep track of info and helps me make a decision. Here is the link to my template for the list I used. http://bestdestinationwedding.com/forum/t34495

Be sure to search/browse the Jamaica and Wedding Review sub-forums. There is tons of info on Jamaica, including some pricing that could at least give you an idea.

I think the problem you will run into is that you cannot get whole package pricing this far in advance. Airlines only develop fares and schedules 9-10 months out and those are still subject to change.

If it were me, I'd find a property that I liked and would best meet the needs of your group. Your wedding is special so you should go somewhere you want to be, not just someplace that is a particular dollar amount.

You and your guests both have time to start saving. I would send out Save The Date (STD) info and develop a website to keep your guests posted about developments. Heck, you could even have a poll and let your guests decide where you should get married! LOL

Good luck in your search!

in one word - NO
but if you only want a long weekend and before airfare ... maybe.
isn't halifax an expensive place to fly from?

Check out Royal Plantation in Ocho Rios - they're having a 60% off sale plus some other bonuses... but that's only if you book before April 30th... but keep an eye on their website, they have been offering some incredible deals! It looks like a SUPERB hotel and amazing place for a wedding but is expensive ~ we were able to afford it for our HM given the discount we received upon booking (at that time it was only 33% plus they pay for your airfare up to a certain amount). We will be staying 8 nights there ~ SO excited!! :)

Hi Mags -

$1500 for a whole week with airfare at a 5 star resort might be hard. I don't know what star rating Grand Palladium has, but it's around $800pp for 4 nights without airfare, but it's all inclusive so guests don't have to pay for drinks, food, etc - it is a kid friendly hotel. That rate is for April 2010. Good luck with your searching!

Hi Mags,

It might be hard finding a 5* for 1500/pp. but not impossible. I think that you might have problems finding prices for airfare so soon. You have a large group going, so you might be able to get a better price. Don't give up on Jamaica yet, there is alot of beautiful resorts out there.

Good luck with your searching

Mags, I had a similar dilemma in my own search for a resort. Originally, FI and I wanted to keep the price down to $1600 (after tax) for our guests but after months of exhaustive searching, we found that that just wasn't possible (we're coming from Vancouver, BC, though so that made a huge difference in our search). We were a little discouraged b/c we thought Jamaica would just be out of our reach and began looking into Mexico options. However, after some discussion with our close friends and family, all said that what matters most is what WE want, so if it meant a few extra hundred dollars per person, so be it. And in the end, the difference between Jamaica and Mexico was only a few hundred bucks so we decided, with our family/friends blessing, to fork out the extra $$ to get the wedding we really want - in Jamaica!

I think you just have to keep an open mind, do a LOT of research both on your own and through a travel agent, and in the end what is meant to be will be.

Good luck in your search!

We went through the same thing! Most of our guests are flying from either Edmonton or Vancouver and it has been tough to keep in within reasonable prices. Initally I had told most of my guests maybe between $1500-1700 cdn. So far the prices we have been quoted have been between $1700-2000. We have a TA but we have also given our guests the option of booking through online travel sites since they do tend to be about $400-500 cheaper. But at the same time gave them the advantages of TA's.

I agree with Lara..just keep on doing your research..

If I were you I would try contacting Iberostar in MOntego Bay area. They have three properties within one resort. It is very nice and very reasonable if you have the right travel agent. I have a travel agent that you will find very helpful in planning what you need. Hit me back and I will get you here information and what things I can tell yo about that place....its to die for

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
