Guanacaste hotels

Hi gals,

My fiance finally has a job again (it really stinks living in Michigan since we have the highest unemployment rate in the country) so I officially have permission to start planning and spending money again! :) We were originally considering Jamaica, but are now thinking Costa Rica. I am looking at the Playa Grande area and want something small and relatively inexpensive. We are going more for the small and intimate setting away from the hustle and bustle of the city. However, we still also want access to get away for day trips, etc. Have any of you been married in this area? What kind of prices did you pay for your rooms, wedding coordinator, etc. I have been talking to a lady named Severine from Costa Rica Exotic Weddings. Has anyone used this wedding planner? Also, she suggested a few smaller and less expensive hotels in that region including the Rip Jack Inn, Hotel Bula Bula and Tamarindo Village. Has anyone heard anything about these locations or seen them? Are they nice, should I look elsewhere (other hotels and locations)?

Thanks!!

Ginalynn,

Hello. Keep in mind that if you are in Playa Grande you are in a smaller type town. To get to nite life, market and other activities means a 30min. drive to Tamarindo. I love Playa Grande for how quiet it is, (I used to spend two months out of every year there (used to fly down with my two pet greyhounds from San Francisco, CA) but it was a hassle to get to the market or two other activities. You could always stay in Tamarindo and take a (2min across) ferry boat to Grande for the day. If anything, I would suggest Hotel Las Tortugas, they will have all the amenities you need. Remember that this year you can get great prices on hotels anywhere. Haggle, haggle! Cala Luna is by far the hotel with the best location in Tama. There is also Casa de las Tortugas or Marrakesh which and rentals beachfront. There are plenty of planners in the area, Tropical Occasions, Pura Vida Weddings and Weddings Costa Rica. Our photographers have worked with all and provide a great service to clients.

Have you thought of MalPais? Casa March? Milarepa, Red Palm Villas? Seems like you are more the type to get married in Malpais, it has more of a Playa Grande feel but with nitelife, restaurants and activities. Many hotels and cabins in all price ranges. Let me know if you need more info on this.

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
