We're supposed to be taking our honeymoon in Europe starting May 11th. I hope we'll be able to enter the various countries in Europe after having been in Mexico.

I think I'm going to take a personal day at work. I can't concentrate and now I'm spontaneously bursting into tears.

Sigh... this isn't the way I though I'd feel a week before my wedding.

The Thomson Holidays travel agency is canceling flights/trips to Mexico at least for today only, and I read that other travel agencies will be following suit. Future dates will be determined. Here's a link to the agency's press release regarding this decision:

Thomson Holidays - Travel Information and News

Did your BM book through this agency? If not, I think she'll be ok. I'm so sorry hon, I think taking a day off is a good idea. This is such a tough time for all us Mexico brides sad.gif Unfortunately, I think the news and numbers will all get worse before the situation gets better, only because now all countries are on high alert and will be implementing testing. The good side is that there are no fatalities outside of Mexico City thus far.

They say the next 7 days are critical to really assessing the situation ~ I am hoping and praying we will see a light at the end of that tunnel. rolleyes.gif

sad.gif SWINE FLU GO AWAY!!!!

MarieSam-You are right about just staying positive. That's all us Mexico brides can do! You always have such good advice.

Jacilynda-yes, people have cancelled already on me sad.gif I expected it. I guess I thought I was in the clear since we have 3 more months. I think our plan B will just be the courthouse since we were already doing that and we are having a big AHR.

I feel for everyone here. I am sending prayers and thoughts to you. *hugs*

Yep the Foreign Office has banned travel to Mexico unless its urgent!

My holiday isn't through Thomsons but my flight is and at the min i'm waiting to hear if it's cancelled or not. I know Monarch airlines have cancelled all flights up until the 8th and Thomas Cook up until the 5th.

I can't get any sense out of my TA about it and that is giving me NO time to re-arrange anything for 9 people. I can't change the date as FI has special persmission from the army to be off at this time and straight after we get back he is going to Afghanistan!!

I swear i'm going to the registry office and having a bag of chips after!!

I'm keeping an eye on it but my insurance company told me at the min they won't cover us if we fly and its in May or June! Great I leave on the 11th oh and they won't refund the deposit for the wedding!!

Hey guys, my thoughts and well wishes for great weddings are with you all! I know that DH and I are in a bit of a different situation because we are now the only ones here in PV (our last few guests are leaving today on the flights they were scheduled to originally leave on). So we have already had our wedding and are now just here in Mexico on our honeymoon. I can't imagine being at home days before leaving with all of our guests and this be happening. Although, when we arrived a week ago...it was already happening, granted i realized it has gotten much worse in mexico city. anyway...everything is fine at the resorts!!!! DH and I haven't left our resort yet but that is because we are having too much fun relaxing here!

I can report though, that at the airports some, SOME people are wearing masks...at least that iswhat my parents reported back to us yesterday

It would not stop me from attending somebody else's wedding. I think only people with weak immune systems (children, seniors, anyone who already has pre-existing medical conditions) should be concerned.

Perhaps I am being naive but that is my opinion.

Sunbride, honestly I couldn't agree with you more!!!! I might be naive too but we are in PV now and have not seen anything nor do DH and I feel unsafe at all... the media has literally scared a lot of people away so our resort is practically empty

nope, wait and see what happens in the next few weeks, i am sure a lot will change between now and then. it could get worse but my guess this is going to die down.

But I guess thats it... I am just going to wait it out and see what happens.
what a great attitude!!!!!!! I would be trying to stay positive too...I am crossing my fingers that everything will work out fine for all!

Good luck ladies :)
Agreed!!!!!!!!!!!! it is concentrated in mexico city, far away from the resort beach towns...

oh PV brides, read this....since we are here in PV now we are trying to stay as updated as possible just in case wink.gif

Puerto Vallarta/Jalisco Swine Flu Updates

So nightclubs and discos are closed as a precaution but there are still NO confirmed cases in Jalisco!

My advice would be to keep planning, keep your guests informed and don't let panic set in.

There are several factors here that need to be realized before going into a full blown panic about the possbility of a global pandemic. First, the media doesn't always get it right and sometimes causes even more panic in an attempt to provide the facts. Second, its too early to tell what kind of flu virus this really is. Many health professionals are saying it could be very much like a seasonal flu but more analysis is needed before making that decision.

And finally, the mexican health care system is not like the ones in Canada, europe and the states. They don't have the ability to track and monitor all cases appropriately so the statistics just aren't there to say this perticular flu has a 10% death rate. It's actually probably closer to .001%.

Keep positive ladies!

Hi ladies,

First, thanks for all the support. It really helps to know I'm not the only one in this situation.

I've been speaking with my travel agent this morning and it looks like she's going to try and re-route our group to another resort in either the Dominican, Cuba, Jamaica, wherever! I really don't want to move out of Mexico, but it looks like MANY of our guests will cancel if we don't. In fact, we've had about 12 already cancel. Although I don't share their fears about contracting the flu, I am sensitive to the fact that its their health and their decision.

At the end of the day, I want to enjoy my wedding experience and if moving away from Mexico helps, then I'm all for it. I'll keep you guys posted on any developments...

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
