Deadly swine flu virus in Mexico

Recommended Posts

I'm so glad you girls had amazing weddings! Last year when Dreams tulum closed many of the girls had to switch resorts and everything turned out great, some said better than what they had originally planned at Dreams tulum. So much can be done in a matter of days!

Has anyone seen the new travel mexico commercials? I love it! It goes into how they have overcome swine and WHO and CDC have recognized this and welcome back to mexico!

We returned from 16 days in Mexico (Riviera Maya / Playa del Carmen) with no problems at all. We mostly stayed on the resort, but we went to Coco Bongo in Playa one night for our Bach party, some of our guests went to Playa during the day for shopping, and Cozumel. Everything is normal and safe. The airport they are doing health screenings taking your temperature and filling out a questionairre. Nice because customs is super fast! For anyone that has traveled during peak season, you know that customs in Cancun can take over an hour, and this time there was zero wait time! Nobody is in masks or sick or anything. So, happy planning and have fun!! :)

I also just returned and everything was fine (well except for the crushed economy, loss of jobs, etc. that our media has caused).

Resorts are super low on guest-nice because it is like you have your own resort-sad because so many people have been laid off.

Customs, NEVER stood in a line...how crazy. On the way we walked thru a thermo stan-most don't even realize it is happening. On the way home they actually did a forehead temp. check. Very quick questionaire each time.

We were their for 10 days, when to playa twice, once for shopping, once for an excursion. We also went into Cancun for an excursion.

Right before we left all the travel people begged us to please take a second and go to trip advisor and let people know it is safe to travel to Mexico.

I know many of us don't even want to hear those two words, but is anyone concerend about their wedding and the swine flu. I'm from Jersey and we hear alot of it happening and in NYC, but the news hasn't said anymore information about Mexico. What have your guests said, anyone canceling.

Concerend Bride,

Diane

i've got a very worry-some family...always wondering about the drug wars they hear about and the swine flu nonsense. Don't worry...I told them if it was a serious problem, more serious actions would be taken to cancel flights and close resorts. 36,000 people die from the normal flu every year as it is. It was an overblown media event. My wedding is in September and I'm going whether there's a flu, a hurricane or a swarm of locusts (or mosquitos in the case of Mexico).

I think you and your guests have a better chance of getting swine flu in NJ then in Mexico today in the Daily Record a little boy age 10 from Sussex County died at Morristown Memorial (so sad) and New Jersey has had 415 confirmed cases of H1N1 influenza in 19 counties. An additional 252 probable cases are pending testing in the state lab. Here is the link: 10-year-old boy dies in Morristown | dailyrecord.com | Daily Record

Hi Ladies! This has been a very popular subject for discussion. Lots of brides have been effected by the swine flu. Below is the most popular support and discussion thread:

A quick seach brought up all of these other threads if the one above doesn't answer your questions.

Not at all worried. It's more prevalent in Toronto than in Tulum, where we are heading in 2 days :-) Our guests are reasonable too, which helps. No one has freaked out nor threatened to back out, even when all of this craze broke loose in April/May :-)

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
