I hope some of you get a laugh out of this like I am right now....

So I just found out that a couple of days ago, the HR lady at my work issued a company wide announcement about employees traveling internationally during this pandemic...i haven't seen it yet but it but from some other people from my work told me this morning is that basically I am being forced to stay home (work from home) for 2 days when I get back to the US, yes paid and all! apparently they are worried i might bring the crud back so they are "quarintining" me! rofl.gif

i am not the only one in mexico right now either...one other co-worker of mine is in cancun right now too! so he will be "quarintined" as well!

yes, I might bring it back...but it is soo freakin funny to me that they are freaked about it this much!!! again there are no confirmed cases in PV but now there are 2 in Denver....um aren't my chances of getting/having it way worse if i were in Denver?! smile105.gif

so i apparently can't go back to work until next wednesday! good news for you all too, hopefully while at home i will be able to get you pics and get my reviews done!!!!!!!!!!

That is awesome! Work from home! YAY! bunny_4.gif

Yeah, I have guests that are so censored.gif freaked out about Playa del Carmen when there hasn't been any cases there, yet there are cases in Houston which is so close to us! Crazy!

Yayyyy, good news. You know I'd been dreading calling my Grandma back. Well today I finally did and all she could talk about was if I liked this shirt @ Banana Republic for my Grandpa to wear!!! I've asked both my Dad & my Grandpa to walk me down the aisle (my Grandparents helped raise me and are totally my foundation in life!), so they need to wear shirts that match the theme. I've been so caught up in just getting myself there that I don't give a sh!t what they or anyone else wears anymore!!! LOL

I'm SOOOOO happy :) And that news break about the 1957 virus being so similar totally helped them feel better. They're just worried about me now since my immune system is already compromised. I said I'm totally rocking the mask! They're wearing them too ~ I am TOTALLY cool with that!!! :)

YAY, my goal was 5 people! My Dad is on, Martin and I are on and now my Grandparents seem to be on as well!!! I had totally prepared myself for the worst but things are looking up :)

Seriously, as soon as I started to work on my Visionary Board yesterday everything turned around! Going back to work on it today!!! :)

it just happened on my end too ... FI's aunt just got a memo at work that anyone traveling to mexico will be required to take off a full week without pay upon their return. (seems like it should be illegal for an employer to do that, but she works for a law firm so i'm guessing they're aware of their rights as employers)

gee, guess that means i just lost another 3 guests, including my flower girl!

Hey, are you holding auditions for flower girl role, I am a good petal thrower - may not be as cute or fit the dress but I am game :)

Thankyou to all the brides posting the good thoughts. I will be building my visionary board with pics of my hotel and the beach and our last mexico visit. Bad things come in threes, drug wars, swine flu and earthquakes. Stay strong to all my Summer 2009 brides. If we are willing to go through all this for the wedding, it has to last forever, at least that what my fiance keeps telling me!

We're still unsure what we're doing. Trying to find out from our hotel & TA what options we have (if any). If its a matter of losing our money, then we are going! No matter who comes with!

Below is a statement issued from our hotel. This may be helpful to send to your guests who are on the fence...

STATEMENT ON TRAVEL TO MEXICO IN LIGHT OF

US, EU AND CANADA RECOMMENDATIONS

April 30, 2009 4:00 p.m. ET

As many already know, ongoing reports of swine flu cases around the world prompted the World Health Organization (WHO) to announce the influenza as Phase 5, denoting the “human-to-human spread of the virus into at least two countries in one WHO region.”

Although these reports are dismaying, swine flu’s overall impact is still quite minimal, having affecting less than .000008 percent of Mexico’s population, .0000004 of the U.S. population, .00000005 of the EU population and .0000005 of Canada’s population.

As such, the United States, European Union, Canada and Mexico have all decided NOT to restrict travel to or from Mexico – an assessment aligned with WHO, which “recognizes individual country considerations will affect national decisions, but, in general, does NOT encourage” border closings.

There have been absolutely no reports of influenza in the Quintana Roo region (encompassing 16,228 square miles) of Riviera Maya, where El Dorado Spa Resorts & Hotels and Azul Hotels by Karisma are located.

The Quintana Roo State Secretary of Tourism reports that the isolated cases of H1N1 Influenza outbreak registered in the country have been located at the central and northern regions of Mexico. Further, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) in the United States, the Ministry of Health in Mexico and its counterpart in the State Government have not reported any of these cases to be identified in Quintana Roo.

We continue to monitor the situation daily and will provide related updates as developments arise and/or new information is learned.

Hello everyone !

I'm currently in Playa del Carmen and it is soo nice here. Although archeological sites have closed, restaurants bars and clubs are open. Also there are less people than usual, making it real cool.

There are still no reported cases of flu on the Riviera Maya. The only noticeable signs is a few people here and there wearing masks, and the pharmacies being out of masks and hand sanitizer.

I honestly feel safer here than in Houston, where a kid died from the flu and did go to a big mall while sick... Think about it : Cancun is farther away from Mexico City than Houston is (807 miles versus 749) !! And I don't think the border will be an efficient barried, even if the flu has no visa to enter. And there are 49 cases in NYC - none here - why would it be safer to fly to NYC than to Cancun ?

I also still don't think it's a big issue, because people that die actually remainined unattended during a long period of time (the first woman was treated for throat infection, then pneumonia before they detected the flu ; same for the kid) and don't necessarily contaminate their relatives.

I also notice that people that gety sick on flights are only a few. i.e., it's not the whole flight that get sick but only a handful. So is it that contagious ?

Also, the death toll does not increase.

Anyway, I'm here getting married tomorrow. 10 of my guests cancelled so we will be around 25. My family is there (and my bro will get quarantined when going back to Singapore) ; DH family is there ; and a few friends (I'm missing two in my party and DH 1).

We still plan to have a good time !

And on return I will be working from home for 72 hours - sounds like extra vacation to me !

Well, so far I've only lost three people, one couple for non-flu related reasons and one b/c she wouldn't be able to relax. WTF? My MOH is fighting with her mom about it, which I think is hilarious b/c my MOH is 35 years old. Like she's going to get grounded for going? I shouldn't laugh but I just want to shake people some times. Would it really be better for me to move to some place in the States that already has the flu?

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
