Deadly swine flu virus in Mexico

Recommended Posts

Kytum - you just hit on my biggest challenge in changing destinations. Honestly, we ARE spening more money for the hotel and it is not all inclusive. That being said, the "price" of the wedding itself with photog, etc is about $1000 less than Mexico. My airline let me change flights early without a penalty. That saved us $300.

My big concern is MOH, future FIL, and my other best friend booked outside of the TA to get a rate cheaper than the group rate...and a few others did not purchase trip insurance... and we would have to find another photographer? This sucks... I am so sorry to everyone having their wedding in the next week or so, all of my heart goes out to you... what the heck should I do?? Now they raised it to level 5huh.gif I know people will be cancelling...
We are going through the same thing but our travel agent is on VACATION!!! Unbelievable. We are going over there on monday to see what our options are. The problem is that it is too far away to do anything yet. Good luck with your Plan B.

Suddenly, our collective focus is elsewhere - toward a health scare... and then perhaps back to the economy (when the swine flu story dies down)... and then to something else.
I am sending everyone on this thread positive energy, peace of mind and hope.

A health scare is very bad for the economy. It's estimated that a world wide pandemic would cost the global market $3.1 billion. Mexico has already seen a 36% decrease, and the US will start to get hit hard soon too. Some financial experts are worried that this may be the straw to break the camels back.

That being said, we shouldn't be worried so much about it. People should not be afraid to step outside their doors to go shopping or whatever.

I'm still quarrantined and working from home, though. oops.gif

HI Lisa ~ that totally sucks. Am I lucky b/c I'm the only Dr. in my group? ha ha

On a positive note, I was having trouble reaching my photog to confirm and she sent me an email at 1AM last night saying "thanks, I'm fine, there is no flu here just Mexico City. I just shot a TTD today" the TTD she shot was in the hotel zone. So anyone headed to Cancun, maybe this will help a bit. I know that it's always nice to hear from people that are actually there. :)

Yeah TylersGirl!!!! I am so excited for you! Your story really pulled my heart-strings when I read about all the drama with your BF & SIL. I'm so glad you decided to stay put b/c that was originally the wedding you & Tyler wanted! I wish you both all the best! I also wish for your brother to sack-up & put your SIL in her place!

Congratulations & I'm keeping my fingers crossed for all of us Mexico brides that this thing blows over quickly.

All you May brides-- I'm pulling for you too!

Much love! smile03.gif

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
