Deadly swine flu virus in Mexico

Good point I didnt even think about that.

This is making me crazy... I am going to the TA tomorrow to come up with a plan B God Forbid our plans do not work out. I know our wedding is two months away, but guests are getting concerned... am I acting rationally or irrationally?? My big concern is MOH, future FIL, and my other best friend booked outside of the TA to get a rate cheaper than the group rate...and a few others did not purchase trip insurance... and we would have to find another photographer? This sucks... I am so sorry to everyone having their wedding in the next week or so, all of my heart goes out to you... what the heck should I do?? Now they raised it to level 5huh.gif I know people will be cancelling...

Thanks Michelle - I actually feel much better now that the decision is made. But, we only had two other guests to worry about.

I must give kudos to Delta. The agent waived our change fees even though our travel is on the 18th and gave us vouchers for the difference in fares.

Ok, I have cancelled and rebooked:

hotel

air

WC

hair and makeup

photog

Need to make dinner reservations

Then...done.

Just think of the great TTD pics I'll be able to get walking down Duval St. in Key West!!!

trying to stay positive!

Sadly, my wedding is this Friday, May 1st in Cozumel. We considered cancelling and changing the date/ location but just didn't have the time or heart to change it. We're going ahead with the wedding in Cozumel. We leave first thing tomorrow. We only had 2 people in our entire party that cancelled. I was shocked! I called every person that is attending and asked about concerns and asked what they felt comfortable with. Each person said let's go, don't cancel. This whole situation breaks my heart but we are going to make the most of it. We are adding "Swine Flu Prevention kits" to our gift bags.

The are no confirmed or even suspected cases in Cozumel but the toddler that died was here in Houston. We are just going to be careful and wash our hands. Other than that, I plan to have a wonderful time.

Do you guys think I'm crazy?

Emily

Emily - After EXTENSIVE research on this I really think the odd are in your favor and you don't have anything to worry about - of course we don't know what will unfold but bottom line is that it's now in the states so it's not like we can hide from it - and we have to remember "it" is the flu and it's treatable. Just be safe and follow all precautions and you'll be just fine. And on the positive side it will probably mean the beaches are a lot less crowded. I'm on these Isla Mujeres message boards and got these messages from people down there today: Good luck, just remember to relax - and don't turn on the tv down there! If you get a chance please send us a message to let us know how it is.

Message:

I am down here now and as I lay on my beach chair in the breeze with a cool cervesa in hand, it seems like an oasis from the US fear machine! Im glad Im here and not there. We are fine!!!

Message:

things are still fine. Have been here since last Friday, and unfortunately we have to make our way back to the States in a few days. Had lunch at Bally Hoo and by the time we left every table was full..busy as normal on Medina and at least in my opinion the hard work on Hidalgo is coming along nicely. We have seen very few masks. We are swimming, eating, shopping and relaxing...just paying attention and washing our hands

Emily, I don't think you are crazy at all.

Ladies, the swine flu seems to have been completely blown out of proportion in my opinion - and this is coming from someone who lives in Mexico! I have shared a few bride's stories from this thread with foreign and local friends and we are all saddened by what many of you are going through. We are shaking our heads at how this has been handled by the media and the reactions this has created. We feel terribly sorry for the stress you are experiencing and we are holding many of you in our thoughts.

I spoke with a friend, who happens to be lawyer in Mexico, and her comment was this, "This "health scare" has more to with a bad economy in the States, Mexico and elsewhere than it has to do with a something called swine flu." I tend to agree. Who is thinking about the bad economy right now? Suddenly, our collective focus is elsewhere - toward a health scare... and then perhaps back to the economy (when the swine flu story dies down)... and then to something else.

I am sending everyone on this thread positive energy, peace of mind and hope.

Elizabeth

Hi Kara, I am not sure if you have this resolved yet, but I spoke to Frontier Airlines tonight and they said it is illegal to not refund your money unless they claim Chapter 7. I completely realize you are devastated and with no doubt going through all sorts of emotions and my heart goes out to you and your family 100% also along with everyone else that is going through this.

But I just wanted you to know the info I received in case it helps just a little.
She said to fight it on your credit card (many time all you need to do is call and tell them the situation) and also some insurances like auto and home may also cover in events like these. The rep said most people aren't aware.

So when you are up to it, I just wanted you to know this info. This is so upsetting and I wish there was something to be done and I hope this all gets resolved for the best! Best of luck to you and your fam!

OMG I am jumping for joy!!!! I was just telling Joe like 10 minutes ago how bummed I was that you were really changing to Jamaica. I mean we are planning a plan b just in case but still intend to have our wedding in Akumal. I was just telling Joe that I wish you were still having your wedding in PDC and would be around when we got there so we could have lunch. He felt so bad that I was bummed and then I got on here and you are staying w/ PDC!!!! I'm sooo excited if you are sticking around afterwards we should have lunch or something!!! Joe and i get there on the 4th!

Desiree----> I love this! I think it is a perfectly fine decision, Make smart choices, be sanitary, and have an amazing wedding. I mean this could be totally blown over in 3 months.

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
