Deadly swine flu virus in Mexico

Recommended Posts

Well, more then likely we will cancel our wedding. We just got a call from my FMIL and she is not going to be able to get clearance from her doctor to go. She has cancer and a very weak immune system. She called my FI earlier crying explaining that she can't go. There is no way that we would do this without her. They are a very close family, and I am very close to her...so we could not imagine going through with this without her. I know that many will say that it is about my FI and I, but she means to much to us to not have her there with us. It was really crazy when my FI was on the phone with her. She was telling him that maybe all of this was a sign, the drug-wars, flu, earthquake, that we shouldn't get married over there...and just then our fire alarm went off....and then stopped...mind you there was no smoke or anything of the sort to set it off. It was as if someone was sounding the alarm wtf.gif At the beginning I had initally wanted our wedding to be at home so I guess that is why I am not stressing that much over it. I am stressing over the refund of money. We all have travel insurance, but I called the insurance company and she said that the gov't had to Mandate that no one travel and then they will honor it. But there are a few different types of insurance that you can get. I am almost 100% positive that we have the one that states we can cancel for any reason, but we are going to call our TA tomorrow to get our policy number. This really does stink. I can't imagine trying to plan a wedding on such short notice. I called a few places...one even has our original wedding date avail. Worse case we are hoping that if we can't all get our money back that maybe we can change locations. shots.gif

I am SO SORRY to hear that! I cannot imagine how upsetting this may be, however, you are there with the most important person in your life, so why not go forward with it? No having your family and friends there does suck, but I think you should make the best out of the situation...after all, you are marrying each other and that's what counts!

Good luck,

i'm so sorry Jena! I'm with you. I know this day is about me and FI, but I really want these people there. I did a DW so that we would end up just having these people there. if my guests start cancelling we will change locations. 5 of our guests are not going to book their flights until there is some clarification on what is happening w/ the flu. so we are setting up a plan b and hoping for the best!

i'm too feeling the stress a little but if we can still fly to cancun then we will still be going! my guests are a little worried but won't be cancelling either. if we cant fly then our travel agents will change location. at first i was dissapointed with our travel agents as we booked the wedding through them and didnt feel they were doing anything for us. but now i'm thankful cos if we have to change destinations then they will sort out another wedding.

fingers crossed this will blow over soon. dress fitting tomorrow so staying positive still! woohoo 3 weeks to go!

Are you sure that people from the UK are being banned from boarding planes or is your travel agent simply not booking flights right now? One of my bridesmaids is from London...

We're supposed to be taking our honeymoon in Europe starting May 11th. I hope we'll be able to enter the various countries in Europe after having been in Mexico.

I think I'm going to take a personal day at work. I can't concentrate and now I'm spontaneously bursting into tears.

Sigh... this isn't the way I though I'd feel a week before my wedding.

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
