To be honest, "they" always say that about taffeta, satin and ALL of the common wedding dress fabrics; which most of them are what? Taffeta or satin. lol

I've seen sooooo many ladies talk about their dress being fine after going into the ocean. I just can't see it being "ruined" by water, regardless of what the almighty "they" say. Too much evidence to the contrary. I think a LOT of the anti-water legends are about it weakening the fabric structure anyway..meaning weaker fabric can rip/tear/loosen at the seams faster than dry cleaned fabric. Oh well.

But you have to do what you are comfy with. If I was all that worried about the darn thing, I definitely wouldn't take a chance with it. Lucky for me, I'm not...I do plan to sell it if I can afterward since it's brand new (well, ok..both of mine will be brand new, but trust me, I'm only having two dresses because I WANTED both, not because I'm worried about ruining either). If it doesn't look good/hold up after the session, oh well...my girls can play dress up in it for the next ten years.

I agree, I think all fabrics can hold up to water...however the chlorine and/or salt water has the potential to weaken the fabric. That is more or less if you never rinse or clean it afterwards. I have had a silk dress that was squirted with water at a party (long story) anywho, at first it left a stain but I got it cleaned and now you would never know.

As stated previously, I would only do what you are comfy with. Otherwise you will not be able to let loose, you will be too worried about your dress. I am going back and forth on using my ceremony dress or just getting a cheap but cute dress.

Uggh, I really want TTD pics, but I also want to wear my dress after the photos are taken. I guess I could: a)schedule a second photo session, or B) change out of my dress for beach pics (into a ttd dress), then back into it for the reception...? What makes sense with here?

Trash the dress doesn't mean you have to go into the water. You can also go into the town, walk on the beach, etc.

this is what my photographer did. We went into Montego Bay for the TTD session. Specifically, we went to the market with all of the really bright colors, then we just walked down the main street. I haven't seen the pictures yet, but I suspect they are going to be really amazing. We also took a lot of pictures right at the water's edge.

I will not be showing him my TTD dress before the wedding only because it is almost identical to my real dress. When I got it though I really wanted to show him but I restrained myself and he even said he DID NOT want to see it because he wants to be suprised when he sees me walking down the aisle. It is even at my aunt's house so if he goes in my closet he can't see anything he shouldn't.

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
