I am also experiencing that reaction. Honestly before I found this site I had never heard of it either! I told my mom and the horrified look on her face was priceless. I really want to do it but I gotta convince my Fiance! Everyone's pics on here look so great but he's worried ours will look silly because he's a bigger guy. But I'll keep working on him!! I will buy a cheap dress though, since I want to wear my gown for my AHR too!

If you are inspired you should totally do one too! Who cares what anyone else thinks. And even if no one you know wants to see them, we definitely want to see the pics!!!

haha your right. I had never heard of this before I found it on here. I thought they were all like "photo shoots" for something haha.

I guess when people see some pics of it, they may have less of a horrified look on their face...because all the pics I've seen are unreal!

I'm buying a second dress for my TTD shoot. Originally, I wasn't going to and was totally wanting to use my wedding dress. BUT after going over budget and being absolutely in love with my dress, and also wanting to wear it to my AHR, I've decided to buy a flowly white bridesmaid dress instead.

The top layer of my wedding dress is lace and I think the TTD would ruin it too much and I wouldn't be able to wear it to my AHR.

I'm wearing the same dress for both. A lot of the girls have said their dresses haven't been ruined at all, and I just can't imagine going out and buying another dress.

Not many people outside of the destination wedding community seem to know about the whole TTD thing, and I know the first time I saw a bride sitting in the water I was like

OMG she is RUINING her dress!!!!!

My mom didn't get it at first but she thinks it's cool now - FI is all on board with it...so we are all set.

JenninJamaica, my FI sounds EXACTLY like yours. I too got my TTD here for $50 and plan on sending it along to whomever would like it after. I was totally new to the concept, but it's one thing I constantly read about on here, and I think I would regret not doing it.

Ah, the TTD-dilemma...I know it well! I'll go on record as saying that I also did not know of the concept before joining BDW, and at first I thought it was a little crazy, but THEN, I saw the TTD pics posted by the other wonderful ladies of this forum that had done them and I was sold! How INCREDIBLE the photos look, with the stark contrast of a white dress against the turquoise waters and lush surroundings of tropical locations -- and it's a chance to be silly, or sexy, or express however you feel when you're celebrating your newlywed status! I think we will all have more than enough "posed" pictures, that to have something so completely different will be refreshing when looking through your photo-memories for years to come.

I also came up against some adverse reactions when I initially told my Mom and my sister what I intended to do. They'd never heard of it, and thought I'd lost my ever-lovin' mind, so to keep the peace, I purchased a gown for $75 on eBay and now everyone will be happy! My dress for the ceremony will remain unscathed, and I can literally "trash" or throw away my cheapie TTD dress when I'm done with it if I want to!

I say to put your mind at ease, just get something inexpensive that you can roll around in the surf and sand without worry, and have a blast! Years from now, you'll be glad you did. wink.gif

I plan to buy a different dress for TTD - - I'm not wearing my dress for our AHR, but I kinda want to save my real dress - it is sooo pretty and maybe will pass it on to my daughter one day - who knows... I wish I had at least a piece of my Mom's dress but she didn't have one - so maybe my daughter (if I get to have one) would appreciate having a piece of mine too? I don't know. But I definitely want to do TTD, I would totally regret NOT doing it. My Mom thinks it is totally cool and FI is willing to do whatever I want where the wedding is concerned. LOL

I think I am the most excited about TTD and riding horses on the beach in Jamaica! LOL

BTW I have seen a lot of reasonably priced dresses on eBay. That is where I am looking.

$50 + free shipping on some!

Good luck!! :)

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
