How did you decide?

Originally, we thought Cancun or Riviera Maya because we LOVE the tropical climate but since we're from San Francisco, we thought it may be better and easier to do Cabo or Puerto Vallarta because they're so much closer. We're still not sure though because we really want those balmy evenings that come with a tropical climate and we're not sure Cabo or PV would be warm enough.

I love how Cabo is only about 2.5 hours away though, and it has SOOOOOOO many options compared to PV.

I would love your insight! How did you all pick Cabo for your wedding location? Did you have a hard time deciding between Cabo and somewhere else? If so, what were your other options and what were your priorities?

Oh yeah and for those of you who have been to Cabo, how cold does it get at night in May/June?

We need to narrow it down to an area soon since we would like to get married next May or June so I'm really looking forward to hearing about your experiences!

Hi Jen,

I am also from San Francisco (or was when i got married)...when we were trying to pick a location, we wanted somewhere hot, somewhere DH and friends could surf.

Cabo was the perfect choice for us because:
  • flights were cheap and short from SFO. this made a huge difference for those travelling with kids.
  • weather was HOT...it does get very balmy there. especially in the summer. if you want it hot and balmy try may, jun, july, october wedding date...if you want it SUPER HOT...august, september.
  • Dreams Cabo i think does the best weddings of all the dreams resorts. they have a stellar wedding dept. and very reasonable wedding packages. You get alot for your $$ in terms of wedding costs.

that being said, PV is also a great choice because the rooms at Dreams PV are about $100-150 less a night than dreams cabo. Their wedding department is a little more difficult to work with (alot of turnaround, they haven't really hiot their stride) but the resort is very nice. The flights are almost twice as long though.

Wow, I had no idea that Cabo was so much more expensive than Puerto Vallarta. Definitely something to think about.

The only thing is, we're not so much into huge resorts and are really hoping to find a venue that is smaller and more intimate with a lot of privacy. I did tons of research and I only found one place in Puerto Vallarta that seemed to offer what we're looking for (Playa Fiesta). I felt as though it was all either huge resorts or private villas and I don't want to deal with the extra hassle and expense that comes with a villa. So I started looking into Cabo and it seems as though there are a ton more options there, especially in the range of what we're looking for.

If we do end up going the resort route, I'll probably take your advice Tammy and Jess and do PV if it's cheaper. However, since we're looking for a smaller venue, I feel as though Cabo has more to offer us.

Thank you so much everyone for your advice!!! It's really appreciated, especially during this, the most important decision of our wedding!

playa fiesta is a good option but there are alot of restrictions so you have to be careful about that....like everyone has to book a minimum number of nights, non-refundable deposit, etc...

i knew someone that had to cancel their wedding a few months in advance and they lost a huge deposit.

if you want cabo there is cabo surf and alot of smaller resorts as well the only thing is i am really a advocate for AI for group trips, weddings...it makes things so much easier and more enjoyable.

I am from sacramento and for us it was the length of the flight and lack of humidity I think that were our biggest deciding factors.

We had considered cancun, but most our guests were coming from the west coast and the flight being only 3 hours or less was ideal. Plus it can get humid in cancun or that area and I didn't want that at all and also cancun is so busy and fast pace. I know there are parts of that area outside cancun that are slower pace and nice as well but it was mostly the travel time.

I didn't look too much into PV...I think because I had been to cabo once before and never to PV once we knew we wanted pacific side i think cabo seemed to be the easiest.

I would have loved to go to Cabo or PV, but because I live in NY I had to choose Cancun. In this economy I don't think my family would be willing to travel that far. Also if you are inviting kids the flights to Cancun might be a little too long. Those are the things that swayed my decision. Good Luck.

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
