Churches/Chapels in Riviera Maya

Somewhat similar question, with a bit of a twist.... It seems the wedding chapels are all Catholic... and I'm assuming they're not going to allow us (non-Catholics) to marry in them? (If you know differently, please tell me).

And assuming that they won't... are there ANY churches or chapels where we could get married? Expected guest attendance is 80-130. I was raised Methodist, he was actually raised Mormon... at this point in our lives we're spiritual, not religious and would be happy to marry in any church that would take us.

We will decide on a town or an island in the area based on finding a chapel... so we're pretty open from Puerto Morelos to Tulum.... as well as Cozumel and Isla Mujeres.

@adventurebarbie There are actually quite a few options. There are chapels on many of the resort properties but you're right that many of them are Catholic. Another possibility would be to marry in a venue off-resort. Sooooo many beautiful and PRIVATE options. Below is a sample of a beachfront venue just south of Cancun with it's own chapel practically RIGHT on the beach or you can opt for a stand alone alter!

Feel free to look through some of our other online albums for a little destination wedding inspiration

Hi,

Sort of related, but does anyone know if any of the chapels will bless a wedding even if it doesn't fulfill the requirements for a full Catholic ceremony? It will be really hard for us to get all the required forms without raising a lot of suspicion at home so I was thinking either a blessing in a chapel (Our Lady of Guadalupe or Our Lady of Carmen both look stunning) or convincing my future husband to have a short trip to Rome in 2016 for a papal blessing.

Also - does anyone know which chapel/parish the Irish priest is connected to?

Since we are all visual planners, this post WILL give you your 2 cents worth.  I thought it would be nice to put together a list of churches but attach it to some photographs and a short story on our interpretation on the subject / location.

If anyone needs help booking the chapel at the Nuestra Senora Del Carmen let me know. It took me a while to gather all the info, but with the help with a lot of people on this forum, I have everything that you need.

I would love information if you have it! I am getting married there in 2 weeks on Saturday and I still don't know what I am doing. I am having a difficult time being able to plan the actual ceremony and figure out if we will be doing a rehearsal and having any music!

Thanks!

The catholic chapel in Playa del Carmen was very strict on the documents that they needed. So I am not sure that they would be willing to do a blessing. We needed to have copies of our baptism, my confirmation, witness statements, and a document called a marriage transfer license that said that our church gave permission to have us be married in their church. Surprisingly, that was the most difficult document because my church in the US had never heard of this document before.

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
