Did anyone out there add $$ to their trip price?

Recommended Posts

Hey everyone!

We've booked our November trip to Grand Sunset Princess today, and one thing that a TA suggested to us was that we add 50 or 100 dollars to the price of each persons trip and apply it towards the Maid of Honor, and Best Man's trip. Has anyone else out there done this? I don't mind the idea, and it would be great for them.. but I'm curious if this is common practice and if so, did you mention anything about it? I'm okay with doing it, but wouldn't want to do it without mentioning something to people stating that we're doing this... not really sure how to word it. Any insight is appreciated!

Thanks!

Honestly I would never feel right profiting off of anyone of my friends and family, even if it was to help out others.

That being said, I also do not feel the need to pay for our GM or BM. They have paid their own way, and as a token of my appreciation I am purchasing thier dresses and or clothes for the day of the wedding.

it's a clever idea, but personally i would not in any way feel comfortable doing it. if you want to help out the MOH and BM, you could personally offer to offset some of their costs (i.e. pay for one night's stay, or just the flight, or even their wedding-day attire). what your TA suggested seems like you are forcing others to pay for someone else's trip (when they may have enough of a problem paying for their own)! and you're right, if you didn't somehow mention that you were doing it, it's just plain shady.

I agree with this 100%. I have never heard of anyone doing this, and if I was the guest I would say F&%# that, I am paying for my trip and not someone else's.

Glad I asked... for the record, this was from a TA that I did not end up using... not the one I went with. She just made it sound like it was sort of "the thing" everyone was doing. We've never been to a Destination Wedding so had no knowledge of it. I think I'll just cover the costs of the best man and maid of honor so that I feel better about it.

That is not fair at all for that TA to make it sound like everyone does it. I am glad you are not using her, who knows what else she would tell you everyone does.

I am glad you found this forum so you can ask all the questions you have and find all the answers :)

Our TA does a lot of destination weddings and she told us that she recently had a bride who asked her to add $50 onto all her guests trip and then give her the money so that it would cover the cost of her wedding. She also did not tell the people that she was doing it. I couldn't believe my ears when I heard that, but it does sound like this may be something that some people do.

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
