**Dreams VILLAMAGNA- Post Info Here!**

Recommended Posts

I don't know for sure but I'm guessing that the lack of entertainment and watersports probably has more to do with the lack of tourists in Mexico right now. If you read a lot of the wedding reviews on BDW I've noticed that a lot of recent brides down there mention that amenities have been scaled back b/c of low occupancy rates.

As for the lack of entertainment-- that doesn't bother me a bit b/c when I'm in mexico I just love to listen to the ocean and lay under an umbrella. Hopefully things will pick back up though for those who do enjoy the entertainment.

I'm anxious to see what Susan has to say. When I visited Dreams VM in February I was completely awestruck and in love with the place. It was so beautiful. I'm sure that there are always gripers on trip advisor so I take that with a grain of salt.

Hi Amber,

I visited in February (not long after it opened). They were still doing some finishing touches but I do not remember a gazebo. If you look at my post earlier in this thread you'll see pictures I took of the resort and the locations up towards the beach (with grass and some with sand) were some of the locations that the coordinator told us about on our tour. I hope that is helpful.

Amber - i was there late Feb and they had concrete poured for the base of a gazebo which the wedding coordinator told me they would be using for future weddings. Sorry I don't have a photo though. It took them a few days to respond to my emails toom so don't worry yet.

I can probably guess that yes, some of the negative reviews are attributed to low tourism right now. Additionally, this is their low season, so staff is not near what it is during the heavy season. Yes - you will find complainers anywhere in the worl, so I'm not letting a negative review get me down. It will all be fine! - Trisha

I'm starting to plan out my wedding itinerary... is anyone doing a welcome toast or something when they get to Dreams VM? I'm thinking the rooftop sushi bar..just curious what other brides are doing? Also, for those of you doing welcome bags, are you handling them out directly to guests when you get there or having them put in their rooms? Anyone talked to the hotel about welcome events?

I'm planning on doing a welcome drinks (& maybe dinner) at the sushi rooftop restaurant on the Wednesday before my Saturday wedding. I haven't decided if I'm going to give out the welcome bags at the welcome dinner or if I'll have them put in the rooms. I'm a little nervous about having them delivered to the rooms.

My FI visited Dreams VM today, which is where we and our guests will be staying. We had booked sight unseen. He said the resort is spotless, the pools are beautiful and the beach is great. He also said there seemed to be a lot of staff around so the service looked to be very good. The spa is lovely, the rooms are great. His only complaints were that (i) there is no shade..although it is July and extremely hot there, he said that in general, they really need to plant a lot more palm trees or put some more umbrellas up; and (ii) there are no flowers...there is a maguay here and there (a tequila plant) but no foliage so it is more desert like than tropical like. If anyone talks to management at Dreams, please encourage them to plant more trees/flowers like at the other dreams resorts :) All in all, it was a positive review. I have some pics..if anyone wants to see them, please PM me. Thanks.

Sandy, I'd love to see pics. I will PM you.

I hadn't read Susan's post until tonight and it has kind of stressed me out. I am having the ceremony and reception at DVM and I so didn't want to read that she has a negative experience! I have been working with Yolanda, no outside WC, and so far although Yolanda is slow to respond, she has been good. I do have a question into her now about the menu for the reception though. Back in October before Yolanda was the WC, Rocio sent me the wedding menus for the silver and gold packages. Then last week she sent me a totally different menu that didn't even designate silver or gold? So I am confused and a little stressed about that at the moment.

Great to hear Sandy about the visit. The reviews are getting worse on trip advisor, but they seem to me that people are just complaining because it is hot (hello - it is July in Mexico) and things are under staffed (which is typical for this time of the year!). Sandy or H & F - are they charging you extra to do welcome drinks on the sushi rooftop patio - or are you just telling people to meet there? I think I am going to do the same thing! - Trisha

I emailed Cynthia, the groups director, today about the shade issue (Yolanda is on vacation until July 30th) and she said that management is aware of the shade problem and that they are addressing the issue (hopefully that means more palapas/umbrellas around the pool area?). I'm a sun worshipper so it doesn't bother me a bit..but I think my 90 year old relatives may not like so much sun. As for grounds, I don't think that there will be much more trees/flowers - she said since the resort is new, the baby palms take time to grow..she didn't address the flowers/gardens issue. I just really want some pretty flowers..that's all :)

As for the welcome toast - I think I may just tell people to all meet on the rooftop bar for drinks/sushi..I think I might notify Dreams of the meeting place / time and order a few of bottles of champagne or something in advance to do a toast.

As for reviews, I think sometimes people forget they are in mexico, things are a little bit slower. ie. service etc..it's hot there.. people work at a slower pace. Mexicans are lovely people though and very hard workers. It's low/rainy season there.. not the best place to go in July! Some of the reviews seem a bit far fetched to me like the lady who posted a pic of her leg after falling into the balcony jacuzzi? lol... come on!

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
